After watching the game last night and not seeing much Subban of late - he's really fallen off. Not noticeable, not worth the contract, and probably doesn't make the Leafs any better. Maybe he's more reliable right now than Liljegren but honestly, is he better than Holl and I'm not saying Holl is Cale Makar?

Oilers reject imo thats a very high price to pay even with retention take out petrov and replace lavoie with a lower value asset and the oilers accept.

He really is not much better than Holl, but that is not the value he will be adding. Mainly, he will add leadership and experience to a locker room that needs it, he will be good to help get these guys further in the playoffs.

Why would Edmonton be interested in more forwards? Take a look at their roster - do you really think they'll trade a bunch of high end assets for NJ's 8th and 9th best scorers?

The Oilers are finally running 3 strong lines. They'll be spending assets on D/G. Kane was their forward acquisition.

Edmonton has 2 main issues, goaltending and depth. This does a good job of helping their depth, giving them solid mid 6 forwards, and when Zacha gets hot he is tough to stop. Now they should go get flower and they will contend.

I like the trades here.

Though I'd prefer not to send Clarke to Vancouver along with that top 40ova pick and Smith who's still got a ton of potential.
I think the value's there for Garland with those two pieces.

You're retaining on one too many guys here as well, maximum is three.
I'd suggest upping the retention on Tatar to 2.25m and removing retention on Zacha, as PK would likely have to be retained in having any chance in moving him at all.

Thing is that Tatar is retained not only this year but the next one as well, as such I think value in the trade is roughly fair.
I guess it could be made more palpable if EDM were to send Turris cap to NJD as well, if he's valued as a negative asset.
I like Lavoie but his projection has dropped of a fair bit in the last season. OP did put two winger prospects going back to NJD so it wouldn't be unreasonable to swap Petrov with Konovalov (G) or Samorukov (LHD) instead.

I think PK'd be a slight improvement on Holl, and defensive depth for an extended cup run can't hurt.
I think the trade could be improved if TOR were to send Ritchie to NJD instead along with that pick as it clears more cap.

They don't have a depth problem, have you not been paying attention? They have Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins and Kassian playing on the 3rd line. They certainly aren't giving up a couple of decent prospects and a 1st for players they don't need, not when defense and goaltending remain issues.

Besides, Tatar has another year and that creates cap issues for Edmonton. They'll keep their pick / prospects and use them to fix holes and then have enough cap space to re-sign Puljujarvi and Yamamoto in the summer.

Idk man, I feel like depth is always an issue in edmonton. Not so sure Warren Foegele is a great 2nd liner, but i guess it has gotten better this year looking at the lines now

I know what you are saying...but...
"we made a mistake and we want someone else to pay for it" is what we are hearing.
