What if it's a 2nd instead of the 1st?
I know "linked" doesn't mean they are actually after him, but if they are, it also doesn't mean they are offering a 1st.
Any team could simply put in an offer and move on if it isn't accepted, knowing Montreal will be trading him somewhere, even if they don't get a 1st.

As for this yea i dont want it to happen but realistic no its not as DA just doesnt give up firsts for rentals anymore (you can thank ryan miller for that)

Blues can't afford to give up a first for a rental. They'd also have to dump Scandella in some capacity. A 2nd and a 4th I'd reasonable or a mid to low prospect plus a 2nd.

Mmnokaythen!

My point was that Friedman says all kinds of straight up loony BS he gets from laughable trash like The Hockey Writers on the regular. Not sure why anyone ever listens to him.

Are they infallible or something? Friedman in particular says a whole lot of absolute nonsense. And exactly how realistic is it when the Blues don;t have any cap for it?

What about Scandella + Bolduc + Klostin vs Chiarot + Paquette or Perreault

Not a chance in hell. That's highway robbery. Obviously. I'd waaaaaaaay rather play Scandella than Chiarot anyway.

Even if Chiarot is wayyyy better than Scandella ? Even Kulak is better than Scandella, can’t believe we got a 2nd & a 4th for this guy

Haha okay, buddy. Suuure. Scandella is nowhere near as bad as people make him out to be (at least during his STL time - I won't pretend to intimately know how he fared in Montreal), and those two Habs D-men are nowhere near as good as Habs fans pretend they are. Besides, Scandella's particular attributes suit the Blues far better. For example, his skating is better than either of those plugs (and worlds better than Chiarot).

And yes, I agree the Blues overpaid a little, but it was about to be go time for a repeat drive (or at least we thought so at the time). I had no problem with it then, so I have no business having a problem with it now.

You see now you are commenting on things you don’t know
Kulak slow ? You haven’t watch him play at least one time in your life ? Chiarot isn’t slow, yes he is a stay at home dman but people automatically thinks he barely can skate. He is not fast but nowhere near slow. Scandella wasn’t bad in MTL, just a #6 dman making 4M. Chiarot is not that good in the regular season, he has up and down, but in the playoffs he is different. Plays hard like he cares every single shift

Where do you imagine I said Kulak was "slow"? Where do you imagine I said Chiarot was "slow"? Point it out for me.

And the ONLY reason Chiarot is good in the playoffs sometimes (it's not always and last year's performance is wildly overrated anyway) is because refs put their whistles away.

You mention Scandella skating and Kulak is far superior in that department and Chiarot & Scandella are pretty equal

Scandella is pretty easily the best skater of the three. It's not a secret that, even with his faults, Scandella is an excellent skater. He has always been known as such. The Blues D-men are all strong skaters (up to and including guys 7 thru 10 on the depth chart), and that is because they only want strong skaters in defense in order to run their system. It's not a happy accident. It's that way on purpose.

And yes, Kulak is also a + skater. Never said he wasn't. Chiarot is pretty average, though.
