I’m a big Campbell fan (it’s impossible not to be), but 4.5 isn’t outrageous. If I had to make a prediction I’d say 5 mil for 4 years. He’s hasn’t been Vesina calibre in 2022.
He’ll come back to form I’m sure but it becoming reasonable to expect the leafs to be able to sign him for 5 mil or under.

But Ullmark was not crappy. That is very impressive considering the sabres WERE crappy. Murray won 2 Stanley cups and that contract was questionable from the start any way. Markstrom was one of the leagues better goalies for a long time. Don’t get me wrong, Campbell is a great goalie, but this is is really the first year that he’s been at this level (expect possibly last year). Better comparable I think are Peterson and Merzlikens.

If the leafs have to pay 6 million for Campbell which is very possible. Holl, Mrazek, Kerfoot, Ritchie and at least one other player signed with term will have to go ( Muzzin, Nylander). imo
