JT Miller and Lehkonen

Created by: campi95
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2022
Published: Feb. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Miller Trade- Provides 2 top 5 prospects in the Rangers organization in Lundkvist and Kravstov. A prospect that projects to be a solid bottom 6 forward in Barron. A 1st in 2022 to round things out. I believe this is realistic with the retention of salary for a year.

Lehkonen- Nemeth is a salary dump, the 2nd and 4th come into play with that. Cuylle is a prospect with high regard. Gorton drafted him. Gauthier is a depth forward in the bottom 6.

I know it's sort of a nitpick but I wouldn't want to give up Cullye for Lehkonen.

Remove 2 assets and even that is a stretch.

Chytil and no salary retained would be more likely... Need more coming back for retained salary. 1st round pick for every 1.5M retained. Look what was given for Foligno last year. Miller is twice the player

Ideally I would not either, but we have so many wingers in the pipeline. My thinking is to get someone of value that helps now and is still an RFA for negotiating purposes.

Theres nothing to negotiate, we cant afford to resign him.

VAN wont retain money on any trade, its a huge pipedream. Especially if were not trading Schneider.

Salary Retention does cost more, and agreed Foligno and Miller are eons apart. I do think that under the circumstances. It would be difficult for teams to match that deal imo.

Depends on bridge deals and if the Rangers wanted to make another trade in the summer.

As long as Vancouver is not taking unneccessary contracts the other way, and gaining assets, eating 2.6 for 1 year for 3 prospects not needing new contracts and a 1st does not seem insurmountable.

What bridge deal? The purpose of a bridge deal is to retain RFA status, that option is gone. Hes going to get a raise. All we can do is trade his rights in the off-season and try to recover what we gave up. Id rather trade a fraction of that for Jarnkrok.

Again, Vancouver isnt doing anyone any favors if youre not trading Schneider.

I do like Jarnkrok as an option as well. Lehkonen has been getting a lot of heat with the Rangers from what I have read. There are plenty of options to choose from deadline wise when it comes to forward depth. Kakko needs a new deal, Strome, and Lehkonen in this scenario. There is no guarantee that Lehkonen would get a huge raise through an arbitrator, and not many teams with have a lot of cap space with the cap being frozen the next couple years. It would not be easy, but doable to retain them.

I disagree we can leave it at that.
