Offseason Flat Cap

Created by: YYZ019
Team: 2022-23 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2022
Published: Feb. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Predators are a team that is playing very well and have the ability to make a splash this offseason. Although they are likely losing Forsberg as his frustrations have been made known.

Rule: No calling up players with 0 NHL experience

In terms of RFA's, all of them can likely be bridged as none of them are due to any major pay raises.

The Nashville Predators need a top-line LW to replace Forsberg. The price will be exorbitant but Johnny Gaudreau is a talented forward who will help the Preds in the long run

Additionally, the Preds need a backup goalie and a strong 6D. Brett Kulak is solid and Ville Husso is worth taking a chance on.

This team is now primed to fight for the central and has some wiggle room for deadline deals and even though next offseason there are a few RFA's, it shouldn't be too hard to manurvre

You'd have to think Forsberg would take less to stay in NSH, than what you're giving Gaudreau here.

$3M is way too much to spend on a backup, and why would Husso sign with a team where's he's going to backup a workhorse starter like Saros? He'll likely chase a starter's job elsewhere. NSH has Ingram for the backup role next year anyway.

Kulak likely gets a better offer from a desperate team with a top four hole to fill. If Borowiecki doesn't come back, there's enough options in Milwaukee to fill that 3rd pair spot.

Forsberg apparently wants out, and his frustration is well documented. Gaudreau is the only other LW (not over 30) who is close to Forsberg's caliber

Ingram is not that good, although yes Husso might go elsewhere

Kulak getting a better offer? Unlikely but possible. He is just a bottom pairing LD for Nashville and is interchangable. I just like him

Is this "well documented" frustration about the Arvidsson trade before the season? Pretty sure that got blown way out of proportion. Forsberg definitely isn't playing like he's disgruntled or unhappy to be in NSH.

Ingram isn't good? That's news.

Like you say, Kulak is just a bottom pairing LD in NSH. Dime a dozen, interchangeable guy. A team like say WSH probably needs and offers more than NSH would.

The Arvidsson trade was confirmation of what insiders had been saying for months, Forsberg is done in Nashville. Similar to Taasenko, they're playing for money

And yes. but there are other D than Kulak, I just like him

I have never heard one insider say Forsberg wanted out. Do you have a link for that? There were reports that Nashville was open to trading him last year, but Poile has made it well known that they are hoping to have an extension done in the near future. To be honest, I would say this year is maybe the happiest I have seen Forsberg in a Predators uniform.
