If this trade is offered at this years TDL and Edm is in the same position in the standings as they are now, I'd do this deal. For me, the timing and circumstance is everything here. If they go on a heater and win the 10 games, I might pass depending one what Chiarot can get alone.

The only incentive here for MTL is if EDM is not as guaranteed a playoff spot when the deal is struck. The pick can be lottery protected or even top 10 protected but I think it HAS to be NOT missed playoff protected.

For the Wings, we’ll pass. Gagner has been outstanding in the dressing room and off ice for the younger players especially. He has more value to us than he would get in trade. I think he’ll be resigned too.

He should be able to hit 500 career points by the end of the year too (11 to go).

I'm not sure Detroit keeps him but he's worth more than Turris and a 6th. On a team that needs centers he'd be Detroits #5C.

Assuming there will be a market for a guy like Sam. I like Sam a lot but realistically at this point in his career don’t think that’s the case. Playoff teams generally have a couple guys like him at the bottom of line up fighting to avoid waivers. Oilers have turris shore schevoir Ryan I just did this to give him a shot at a playoff run before he retires and retire an oiler.

I’d be confident in leaving the pick completely unprotected. They will make the playoffs but no guarantee how far because I don’t see the goaltending being addressed so that could still be a mid first round range if another early exit.
