Not sure if Leafs would want to commit 4.8m for six years for a 29 year Dman. Leafs aren't necessarily giving a whole lot in the trade, but long term value, not sure.

EJ is still a solid Top 4 dman, however he is not a LHS and does not play his offhand.

I think you'd have to make the pick in the EJ trade at minimum a 2nd. Johnson won't be traded for magic beans. Kapanen and Valiev have good upside, but Colorado will probably want at least one established player along with Kapanen.

Why wouldn't Toronto go for Tanev? Less term & $$$ than Johnson.

Colorado is a weak team. The only players that they will give up will be forwards. They need Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie to hold the defensive zone until they solve their problems.

Not exactly true. I do think they will explore moving one or the other this offseason. EJ is already 28 and moving him now might be peak value. THey need D but they need guys that are hitting their strides in 2-3 years from now.

There has been some speculation on a little rumour tidbit about perhaps Tampa might be interested in either EJ or Barrie for Drouin. Initially Dater from BSN in colorado floated out that piece of insider info. Now with McKenzie and Friedman saying that Tampa light be moving Drouin bc they need a RHD for the 2nd pairing and believe that Drouin would be the hardest and most expensive to sign out of the 3 RFAs....its not so far fatched of an idea w
