If they can get him at 2.75M x4 that's about as high as they should go. Totally moveable contract if things get tight for Ottawa. I don't think we get back a player close to Nick Paul with a late 2nd. Even if we did it would take 3+ years. Hell, it took Nick Paul 6 years from draft day to become an NHL'er. I'd rather a close to ready and NHL sized prospect. Knies from TOR... Nolan Foote from TBL... maybe even Légaré from PIT (although he'd have to include a pick as his stock has fallen).

I think that’s the number we were throwing around on Twitter the other day, an Oskar Sundqvist contract.

It's a very solid comparison contract with the one or two exception: Sundqvist was RFA for the first two years of his four year deal, AND he'd be negotiating an extension when he's 28 so he might have a shot at more term than Paul would at 31. But I think Paul really likes this team and maybe if they throw in some perks (tiny singing bonus and maybe a 10 team no-trade list in his final two years) ... fingers crossed!

In what world is 26 “almost 30”??? He’ll only be 27 when his contract is over after next season. That’s smack dab in the middle of your prime in my books lol

1. Thought he was 28.
2. That gap in age doesn’t make Zub worth 3 1st round picks of value

1. The offered package is certainly not 3 1st round picks
2. Even if it was, it still wouldn’t make sense because Paul is included with a 7th from Ottawa’s side for some reason
