I don't think they will pay that much for Hagel, even though I do agree he is going to be a great pickup, just not worth a 1st plus another couple of decent prospects.

Relative to the majority of contenders, Carolina has by far the strongest farm system. If any team is willing to pay a steeper-than-usual price for Hagel, it's probably them.

Hawks should pass. All 3 pieces in this deal are gambles and none are a surefire NHL impact player. Hawks have a bird in hand as they say, don't gamble on it with odds not in their favor

You know that what I posted was, in rote, the rumored asking price for Hagel. They weren't asking for a surefire impact NHL player. They were asking for a 1st, a top prospect, and something extra. Now, because the first is likely to be late even in 2023, maybe the Canes can send another pick on top of it. It sounds like, though, that Hagel could very well be traded this deadline for a package similar to what I just posted.

I feel like hawks would probably accept a first, koivunen and maybe something else if there is a prospect theyd want from canes it would def be koivunen

Yes, but key being a top prospect. A top prospect usually is a surefire NHL player. I don't believe Ryan Suzuki is, albeit a good prospect, a surefire NHL player.

Also, all that is 100% confirmed, is that the Hawks have declined offers from teams offering a 1st and prospect; nothing more nothing less. Nothing suggests they will move Hagel. The analysts are clearly saying though, if they've declined those offers for Hagel, it's going to take even more to move him, but again, the Hawks have made no comment about moving Hagel so it's unlikely he is moved unless the Hawks are blown away by an offer.

It's nearly impossible to find a surefire NHL player available in trades, though. I don't think, for example, that Seth Jarvis can ever be included short of an out-of-nowhere trade request from some big-name NHL star.

It's not though. A player that is a prospect but high enough has a 90% change of becoming a bonafide every day NHL player but needs a year or two to further develop. A team competing that needs help now for the playoffs, will do that kind of a swap while their window is open. I'm just saying, in no way shape or form does it make sense to trade a bonafide 23 year old impact player on a good locked in contract to pick up gambles because "we are rebuilding"...that's counterintuitive to rebuilding. You would only trade Hagel knowing you are getting a equal or potentially better prospect that needs a bit more time but is 90% sure to be a impact NHL player in addition to another asset. It's a cost to the other team to get a impact now, while giving up a impact player in future plus a gamble pick (1st or 2nd round pick).
