Description
Based on his Lafreniere trade that he claims fits financially and that I don't know math.

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/555266?post_id=2989502

His claim is Strome gets $6M, which I think is probably lower than he gets, but let's go with $6M.

Picking DeSmith just randomly, so don't judge the player. Rangers have to sign a backup. This is for math purposes.

I personally don't know Kakko or Blais' qualifying offers, so Ranger's fans, let me know where I'm off on the math and I'll fix it.

Well, he claimed I didn't know math, so...

    Nearly 4m over the cap, excellent work. Should have just kept Nemeth at this point.

    Well, he went after me hard telling me people in PIttsburgh don't know math, even though I'm not from Pittsburgh.

    He was very aggressive showing all kinds of shady math. I had to do it.

    Well, can't you predict what's going to happen?!?!? He'll just wave the magic wand and airily announce, "You could just not sign Strome. Or trade Kreider somewhere. Or, worse come to worst, trade Shesterkin. But I was right."

    LOL You are so 100% right. He already did that with Strome and said somehow the Rangers can let Chytil walk even though he's still under contract.

    Completely disregards Chytil being traded and the cap increasing and Guhle on the roster

    Strome shouldnt be resigned, there are better options at 6m like McCann, Copp, Domi, Dylan Strome (Would probably cost Chytil and a 3rd)

    @OLDNYIFan - You called it.

    So when was Chytil traded? Did someone just take his full hit?

    I had a similar discussion with a similar Montreal guy who insisted that there are "lots" of teams that could absorb Gallagher's cap hit without trouble. When I asked him to name one, he suggested four, one of which was the Rangers, which was the one I bothered to try to refute. (Why waste my time discussing all four?) He started out by saying that the Rangers have about $6.3 million in cap space (right now), which should have clued me that the task was going to be hopeless, but I went through the motions of doing NY for 2022-2023 anyway. It was the usual pointless exercise of pounding myself in the groin with a croquet mallet.

    There, I put Kuhl to the taxi squad. Whoops, still looks like they're way over the cap.

    Strome will get 5.5-6… that’s a discount as is

    Let’s pretend Chytil is moved and we replaced him for a 750k player. There’s still 3 scratches missing here. When those players are assigned to “taxi squad” they don’t count as a cap hit. So add 3M back to the cap, + 750K after moving out the 2.3 for chytil. Maybe throwing out comments about learning math is a bad idea.. stones..glass house… 🤷🏻‍♂️
