There's no reason for Montreal to do that.

Zucker and a conditional 2nd next year for Drouin.
If Drouin is not available for at least 80% of the games or Zucker is not on Montreal's post TDL roster in 22/23, no pick is transferred.

Zucker is just a warm body for Montreal. If they can't raise his value and trade him for more than a 2nd at the deadline next year, they keep him and get a 2nd.

If they do trade Zucker (maybe he has a good year and they get a 2nd/3rd plus a prospect with retention), then Pittsburgh doesn't owe them a pick.

If Drouin can't stay healthy, Pittsburgh doesn't owe a pick.

So as long as the trade works out for both teams, it's considered an even swap. No reason for Montreal to consider it otherwise.

So pens add a 2nd and if Drouin doesnt play 80% of the games then no pick on either side?

Basically, with the distinction that Drouin is available for 80% of games. If you scratch, waive, or trade him, that doesn't count and the 2nd is still due.

His health, physical and mental, have caused Drouin to miss a lot of games. The condition is to mitigate that risk.

I mean if those are the terms, why even bother attaching the pick, he's not going to reach them.
Hell would he even be available to help the pens in the playoffs....I'm guessing no. At which point, why bother with any of this.

Obviously the trade would have to happen after he was healthy and would depend on remaining games. It counts for next season as well.
Fact is he's missed substantial time in 3 consecutive seasons. If that trend continues, it makes a difference in his value.

Considering Zacha could be a big piece for Boeser, think we could get better than Kapanen

Trade deadline is 26 days away. Will he be able to play by then? wrap him in some bubble tape.

It's a wrist injury so hard to say without knowing what kind. I know Montreal isn't rushing him back, but returning sooner with the prospect of a trade might be a possibility.
