That trade works for the Avs. I know it doesn't feel like a lot in return but with Giroux having the NTC, the return is going to be lower. The Flyers end up with a 1st in a strong draft, a good RH defensive prospect a serviceable roster player, a former 1st that hasn't been given a chance and a D that they can cut loose after this season. Not bad, all things considered.

They're fine. I made a new post to show this as well.

Why would PHI want Monahan? Just don’t see it, not like he is remotely close to the 80 pt player he was 3 years ago.

He's a center and comes with a 2nd round pick. Flyers are hoping a change of scenery gives him a fresh start.

For 1 season. It's not really that risky.

I liked Monahan a lot, but guy fell off tremendously in his mid 20’s inexplicably. If I was PHi and trading Konecny I would want a more sure return than a quasi reclamation project, but that’s me.

Avs decline. Overpay in quantity if not quality and even some of those lower quality pieces are of need. The Avs don't move out a D to get a D, total opposite of need.
