Spend smart not Hard - Deadline

Description
Giroux - Tbh i don't know how the blues value Perunovich and Kostin. I think the value for giroux at the TDl will be a young roster player, prospect and a 1st. So you can change that around as you see fit if either of these guys hold incredible value.

Risto - Look everyone loves to hate the guy but face the facts, NHL Gm's love him and I think he fetches a 1st at the TDL, Grimaldi just there for cap reasons.

NSH isn't trading a 1st for a rental.

And honestly, I don't see them moving Grimaldi either. He can play in the NHL (though Hynes doesn't seem to be a fan), so that's useful for depth if they make a run, NSH isn't hurting for cap space, and he's killing it in the AHL, so I don't see them wanting to move him.

I wouldn't rule out Poile trading a 1st or more for a rental, if NSH heats up a bit, close to the deadline. Only for a top forward though (ie: Giroux, Hertl, Pavelski). Definitely not for someone to play 12 min a night next to Boro.

Anything is possible, but even with a trade for a top player, I don’t love NSH’s chances against the top teams come playoff time. I think they should just roll with what they have or make a tweak here or there. Nothing major.

Oh, I agree. I love speculating and playing "what if" at this time of year, but a minor depth addition aside, they should stand pat. I'm not a 72 yr old GM who is more than aware he's running out of chances to finally get a Cup, though.

Ultimately, I don't think Poile will decide what he does this deadline (buys, sells, or stands pat) until he has a better idea if he'll be able to sign Forsberg or not. He's in a weird position right now. Most GMs don't have this much ambiguity at this point of the year. I don't envy him.

I'm honestly surprised that Poile has largely gone with the kids this year -- like you said, he doesn't have many years as GM left most likely, and we had a win-now kind of roster before this year with lots of long-term, big money contracts. It'll be interesting to see what this team does over the summer. They have the cap space to make some big moves, but they also may lose out on Forsberg and then almost be forced to rebuild. The deadline and FA will be very interesting for NSH this year...

I don't see the blues trading for Giroux despite their being some vague rumors. Our top 9 is already a strength of the team and spending assets to get Giroux seem like a waste. I think they are in the rumors just to drive up the price for the Avs. Also we don't have the cap space for Giroux, there would be to be a third party and we would have to get rid of Scandella. Just don't see the fit for the blues.

Ristolainen is terrible at defense… like replacement level terrible. His offense isn’t there to partially make up for it. He’d be beyond useless for Nashville. I’d rather dress Grimaldi as the third pairing rhd. I’m sorry phillys gm wasted a 1st for him but I don’t foresee another gm doing it. You might be able to get a 2nd or 3rd but Nashville isn’t the team for him either way

I get what you mean, but I don't know if "kids" is the right word. Not counting four games from Glass, the only players under 24 have been Tomasino and Fabbro. For a team with the number of "rookies" they've dressed this year, there really hasn't been that many young, inexperienced players in the mix.
