Isles say no. The upgrade from Nelson to Tavares isn't worth downgrading Mayfield to Holl, giving up 2 of the few prospects of note in the system, and then 4(!) picks.

Even if you coughed up an adequate offer, Tavares isn't waiving to go back to a place that boos him everytime he has the puck and is berated with "we don't need you" chants

Would have to retain or take back smith potentially both

Haven't watched the Leafs lately, huh? Bless JT's heart, he's trying, but the game is moving too quickly for him. What used to work, doesn't, and what works takes extra effort.

I feel like everyone's trying to get too cute with Varly-Edmonton trades. It should be Varlamov for Smith & a 1st. Varlamov goes 1A/1B with Skinner next year, Islanders pay a little more than they probably wanted for Sorokin's back up next year but gain a mid/late 1st rounder.
