Because he likes to add NHL players (for better or worse...), not subtract?

Your title is a lie. Dubas wins this trade.

Beside LW, the Leafs are stacked at LHD. Makes no sense to waste assets there.

PHI has just over $8M in space for next season with 6 guys to sign (just to get to a 20 man roster). Seems like something has to give there.

I don't know, maybe this deal gets done. The 1st round pick for sure, PHI may want someone other than a 24 year old defenseman who hasn't played a game in the NHL.

For that asset cost, I'll happily deal with too many LHDs. TS is very good (maybe a bit Gards esq on occasion though)

I think Duszak could hang as a 3rd pair OFD PP2 guy. Leafs just don't have an open slot like that for him, and Fletcher could then flip that pick for (spins wheel) Lucic!

Yeah, I don't think this is even close tbh. I mean, aside from Chychrun, Sanheim would arguably be the best LD available, and with 50% retention for 2 years...that would certainly not be cheap.

If Muzzin comes back, and it looks like he will, before the playoffs TOR won't be needing a LD. This trade is doesn't work for multiple reasons.

Oh I don't disagree with that at all...my point is more "that ain't it" when it comes to the value.

Sanhiem would be sick, but playing the Left side makes him probably not a target for the leafs. Going into the next couple years it'll be:

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - RHD
LHD - Liljegren

Unless the run him on the 3rd pair I doubt they trade for him
