Hughes: untouchable

Severson: I see three potential values
1st rounder, 2nd rounder and b prospect
1st rounder, A prospect
Top 6 F or Top 4 D and mid round pick

But I’m not a Devils expert so my values could be off.

I agree with above, but in a world where they hypothetically trade Hughes it would only make sense if he was in a package for a better Center. They wouldn't trade him away.

Idk if I would do that. Someone like Matthews, Obviously Matthews is the better player but Matthews would cost more to acquire and can leave as a UFA in a few years while Hughes is signed for basically the next decade

Severson: Muzzin package (One A- prospect, one B+ prospect, 1st round pick). Little bit more with retention.

Hughes: Lindros package (multiple players, multiple top prospects, multiple picks)

Neither will be traded.

Severson probably a 1st and low level roster player. Maybe a bit more if the RD market at TDL is small but I have a feeling it wont be

Would be a lot more than that. Would have to be two very good prospects or young players involved. Devils have no intentions to shop him, so a team has to make a *really* convincing offer since our plans are to keep him for long-term.

we already went through this lol. i aint doing it again. If devils arent moving him then he aint getting moved. If he does, it wont be for all of that. Likely a 2023 TDL move. Devils have no need for him after 22-23

If the plan is to resign him, than yes, they have a need for him. If they don’t resign him, and is sold at 2023 deadline, the price would be less.

I beg Leafs fans to stop asking Severson. It’s been two years of non-stop lowball offers for him.

Eh. Graves, Siegenthaler, Dougie, Smith, Hughes, Edwards and I know im forgetting someone else too. Yeah you are stacked on the left side but you arent gonna get rid of any of those guys on the left. And lets say you move Smith, still got 5 people. More likely to just move them to the right side than to lose them for no value

Subban is gone after so yeah but that depth is insane. Severson would just stunt the young players' growth

Much of that depth remains uncertain and unproven.

Who knows what happens with the Russians now ... and outside of Luke Hughes, are any of the prospects slam dunk NHL quality? I think questions still need to be answered on Walsh, McCarthy and everyone on that LD list from Bahl on down. Until you know next year, they really need to consider Severson an extension candidate. He may be having his best season this year & should have another solid 4 years in the tank. If they want to be competitive near term, Sever is a resign.

Anyone feeling good about those Russian prospects making it over these days? I'm wondering if the political heat to stay home will be too much for next 3-5 years. Losing access to Gritsyuk & Mukhamadullin would be a real kick in the privates.

Yea, I assume like if Bedard was available in 2 years then you trade for him, or if Wright becomes what we thought he was 2 years ago.

Or maybe they defect.

Russia is being isolated from rest of world. If there is any global or macroeconomic impact, I would lead to young Russian players finding new leagues overseas.

Id guess Graves goes. I like him too, but I think he is easier to replace.

Too early to tell if Smith gets paid ... I'd expect a bounce back next season, but still open question.

Luke pay day is far away. By that time Sever is probably gone.

Tough to defect ... kids leaving their family behind to face the wrath of a vindictive government. If I had to leave my family behind, i don't think that's a decision I could make.
