Darren Dreger on Carson Soucy and the Oilers:

- a Seattle source told him that they are not looking to trade him
- there is interest from Edmonton's side
- will probably have to overpay to get him out of Seattle

Devils aren't looking to deal Severson.
Edmonton would probably have to be offering Bouchard.

(trading Severson sounds just as crazy to us)

Pieces coming back to Devils aren't a great fit, think it'd have to include Broberg.
Fitzgerald has said that he isn't moving Severson, but maybe if he outright refuses an extension with the Devils.
In any case, this isn't enough to make fair value for Severson, even if you just get one year of him.
Devils decline.

He's a 3rd pairing guy getting paid more than he's delivering. This IS an overpay.

Bouchard has more value than Severson, so yes, that's crazy.

Severson is a better player right now.
And wears the "A" and is longest-tenured Devil.
And we need defensive d-men more than offensive d-men.
So we shouldn't be dealing Sevs until we talk extension with him in off-season.

I'm not sure this is true. He certainly isn't having as much impact on his team as Bouchard is.

Individual Rates

Of course, he does play more defensive starts and plays more vs Elites (although his results vs Elite aren't as good), so there's that.

Fair points. I'm arguing AGAINST a Severson - Bouchard swap, if you follow it back. You're the one that suggested Bouchard as a target.

Severson turns 40% o-zone starts into 56% chances for.
Bouchard turns 56% o-zone starts into 56% chances for.

So Severson, with less quality teammates, generates more opportunities.
Also, limits more chances against, playing top minutes against top lines.
