I don’t see any good in trading a 2nd + Dermott to get a 7th/8th defenceman

Middleton is Muzzin insurance.

He falls same spot in depth chart as Dermott. But he is a big, strong, defensive defensemen. Which we need at the moment.

Dermott has more upside potential which makes him a good piece for San Jose to get.

Not hard to tell you are a leafs fan with that Arizona trade. Not in a million years does that deal ever get done, and wanting them to retain on Crouse on top of that.

I get that, but that’s a hefty pay for an insurance defenceman, especially since you traded away Holl who is literally a more experienced and better offensively Middelton (tho slightly less physical)

2 1st, 2 high end prospects, 2nd round pick, valuable player in Holl + Cap dump. The retention is 766666 cap hit (so maybe like 150k total cash right now) only for this year. That's a tiny retention and they actually don't need to retain now that I look at it. So remove the retention.

Yea I only traded Holl because we get Chychrun here. I have no intention of trading Holl unless we get a true upgrade (which would be hard). So Chychrun upgrades Holl. Middleton upgrades Dermott.

Plus the Leafs get the 6th round pick back as well in the Middleton trade.

Prices are fr a **** this deadline. Honestly, I’d be fine using Lily as our insurance d man for the playoffs if he isn’t playing. He’s been great this year for us. His experience is the only reason I wouldn’t consider him a lock for the playoff lineup tbh

Good teams need like 8-10 NHL dman for the playoffs.

I think it is a fair offer, though I think you are missing a piece for Crouse, but it is close.

The way I see it: two firsts, Niemela, Robertson and Holl for Chych (we saw what Chiarot got)
second rounder for taking Mrazek
then add something for crouse IMO

That might get you Chychrun, but it doesn’t get you Chychrun with Crouse and Vejmelka. Holl isn’t even that good so calling him valuable is a bit of an overstatement. You don’t have to be a leaf hater for this trade to be unrealistic. It just is.
