Until the Habs ended up getting Lane Hutson with the 2nd rounder


It was quite the overpayment considering bottom pairing defensemen were going for late picks. It ended up being a fair deal, but Edmonton should've been able to get him for cheaper.

Edmonton was never fleeced here, but they did overpay for a #5 guy. He wasn't worth a 2nd when the happened.

It's either a slight overpay (Kulak, Lehkonen) or a big overpay (Chiarot, Giroux)
Kulak was a #5 dman who could play top 4 minutes (did it with Petry)

Yes that's true, but like Lehkonen, the money he wanted made 0 sense here in Montreal. We can't afford anymore bloated middle 6 contracts, we don't have superstars on discounted deals here.
