Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Kerfoot is a good fit for the Canucks 3rd line and can be flipped at the deadline for picks or prospects if the Canucks look like they are missing the playoffs.
TOR
  1. Pearson, Tanner
Additional Details:
Toronto gets a better fit for the Tavares-Nylander line with Pearson who has experience playing with Miller and Horvat and they get a little bit of cap space
2.
VAN
  1. Severson, Damon
  2. Zacha, Pavel [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Severson extends with 5.25 for 6 years

The Canucks need a top 4 defenseman and it's likely for one of the top 6 forwards to be moved for cap reasons. It's better to keep a cost controlled Garland who might not score as many goals as Boeser but fits in more with Boudreau's forechecking system. In return get a puck moving defenseman to pair with Quinn Hughes while also picking up a 3rd line forward
NJD
  1. Boeser, Brock [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Boeser extends for 6.5 for 6 years

New Jersey gets a great scorer for Hughes to pass to moving on from an offensively minded defenseman that they have an abundance of with Dougie Hamilton and Ty Smith with Luke Hughes coming up the ranks
3.
VAN
  1. 2024 7th round pick (BOS)
ARI
  1. Bonus, Halaks
  2. DiPietro, Michael [RFA Rights]
  3. Ferland, Micheal
Additional Details:
Arizona needs to hit the cap floor and putting Ferlands cap on IR and taking on Halaks bonus should help. As a sweetener the Coyotes get a goalie prospect who has stalled in development due to the 2021 season where he sat on the Taxi Squad the whole year.
4.
VAN
  1. Tufte, Riley [RFA Rights]
DAL
  1. Dickinson, Jason
Additional Details:
I'm confident Dickinson can bounce back but I don't think it will work here. It worked in Dallas before.

TOR declines. Kerfoot is in almost 60 point pace this year compared to Pearson's 40, and he can play C. It's a clear L for the Leafs.

Given that Severson has expressed his interest to re-sign with Devils I don't think he'll be included in negotiations. I'd argue Zacha plus two seconds for Boeser and DiPietro is a more fair deal, maybe NJ adds someone like Walsh to the exchange so VAN gets themselves at least a RHD prospect.

Cap wise you don't really need to move Ferland's contract anywhere, and it's not possible to move players bonuses to be paid elsewhere.

DAL declines too. We have no use for another overpaid bottom-6 forward. I like the guy, but with Faksa and Glendening in here Dickinson is just wasted $2,5M+. Tufte is at least cost controlled and his impact to the game isn't far off from what Dickinson brings.

An older, not as good, less versatile player with more term? There is literally no reason for Toronto to do that

If they get pushed around in the playoffs and bounced again, they may. Pearson plays a heavy playoff game and is underrated. The Canucks could probably afford to retain a bit as well. Pearson at 2.75 for two playoffs runs will interest contenders.

Still don't see how that value is anywhere near fair. Kerfoot is producing at a better pace and is really just a level above Pearson. Maybe if some assets are added the trade could go through, but Pearsons not really the guy Toronto needs.
