White rumour theory

Created by: Yeahlagang
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2022
Published: Mar. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this was a possibility before the Sens got Hamonic
Trades
MTL
  1. White, Colin
Additional Details:
I wouldn't do it as a Habs fan, but Savard doesn't fit in Hughes-Gorton mentality, and the term fits.
I would do it if the sens take also Armia, or Weber's contract, but I don't think Sens fan would.

I think you are way off.

There is NO chance they were looking to move savard when petry already wants out. That would be beyond stupid to have a dcore with a bunch of young guys coming up and literally 0 veterans to help guide them.

Well there is still Eddy and Petry won't be moved now until the summer when we can sign a UFA (Letang rumored) so there would be some vets to guide them but you are right this makes little sense for the Habs. I would rather trade Armia and Byron or Armia and Hoffman as it just makes more sense to trade a winger/center for wingers.

I think there is only 1 way we can make this work. Not Savard though, not a dman at all but has to be a forward. Either Armia or Gallagher. Trading for yet another winger/center would be unwise. We already have so many forwards locked up to long term contracts that adding another one would be almost detrimental. IHMO.

I know Hughes wants to add his pals but I think this is one we have to stay away from unless equal forward salary is going back.

Letang is a pipe dream why would a still highly coveted 37 year old dman come to a rebuilding habs.

I think something people dont get is Savard is not a bad contract the habs are looking to unload. He is a 4/5right handed dman. The market deems that worth atleast 3.5 million. Poolman got 2.5 for breathing while right handed. You arent going to improve on savard for 3.5 million. He is fair value

Bonus he speaks french. Theres little to no chance he is moved in the next couple years.

I was agreeing with you on not trading Savard only said that we would still have a vet presence. As far as Letang goes, he may want to come despite the rebuild\retool whatever you want to call it cause Hughes has already said he wants to remain competitive next year as well. This is not going to be a typical tear everything down and start from scratch rebuild, it will be more of a roster reconstruction.

Letang doesnt have that kind of waiting time though. Next year literally could be his last year. Being competitive and contending are 2 vastly different things

Yeah OP I don't think Montreal is a spot to trade away right defenders at the moment considering Petry's leaving.

As bad as Gallagher's contract could become I think it would absolutely be a disgusting ending to his tenure to trade him away in a "Neal-Lucic" type of deal.

Oh Agreed 100%. Just saying who would make sense from a financial perspective. Habs are one of the highest cap teams in the league. We need to be shedding more money, not adding it. I checked a while ago, Habs are one of the teams with the most # of players signed to long terms contracts over 3M+. We need to purge like 3 of those forwards before we start adding more big cap hits. My guess is Drouin, Armia and Hoffman all need to be moved before any White trade could potentially happen.

Yeah Drouin will be an easy out as after all this time we know he's not built for a big market team, with only a year left on his deal and all three salary retention slots open we likely will ship him this summer. I don't get the hate around Hoffman, he's good offensively and not as bad as described defensively, I don't see the fit here either but I'm sure a GM wouldn't mind acquiring him. Armia will be tougher doe.
