If panarin can make strome decent he can make anyone decent just saying

at that rate I'd just put Copp (who you've re-signed) at 2C, and grab a guy like Nichushkin or Niederreiter in UFA for the $3-4M you're giving Monahan and keep the assets you're giving Calgary.

Not worth the risk...Strome was obtained in a pretty lateral trade- a swap of struggling players...and Strome managed to find footing here, and then flourished further when united with Panarin. This deal for Monahan wouldn't be a lateral deal...decent futures going the other way to bring back a player with a still heavy cap hit (after retention)- at a time where cap space is at a premium. Sure- if Monahan finds his old game- at 3M he's a steal...but he's several years older than Strome when he was acquired- so his downtrend looks more like what you're looking at with him. Every metric seems to reinforce the notion that "he's done"...if there's anything you can point to that I'm missing, please let me know what it is...otherwise NO THANKS with this deal.
