What you're proposing is cup circumvention which is forbidden per the new CBA, You can't trade a player who is than boughtout and resign them. You'd need to wait one calendar year. And Anaheim passes not enough quality going back in the Gibson trade.

Believe that’s only if he was bought out by Edmonton no? Believe Brooks Orpik did the same thing with Washington when he was traded to Colorado then was bought out by Colorado and re-signed in Washington the same offseason

Why Would he go back to edmonton, he could get more cash somewhere else or maybe Winnipeg where he's from. Gibson probably isn't the amswer.
