Keeping the youth movement going

Description
This team is probably worse in the short term than the current squad, but that isn't all that heartbreaking considering they're probably not making the playoffs this year anyway. They add a bunch of futures and young players that still have high upside and create some cap space.

If the ask from JT Miller's camp is an 8 year mega-extension that takes him to age 38, the Canucks need to deal him this summer to maximize the trade return. I still really like Lundkvist's upside, and if Kravtsov turns into a decent NHL'er that's a bonus.

They don't have to deal Garland (good contract/age range), but if there's as much interest in him around the league as was rumored at the deadline, it might be worth it to capitalize on it and get the best deal they can.

Extended Boeser on a deal that takes him to age 30. Hopefully he continues to round out his game and makes the cap hit look like a good deal. He's an option to trade as well, but I hope the team doesn't dump him while his value is relatively low.

Made one significant UFA signing in Nichushkin. He's got a solid two-way game and might be priced out of COL, is relatively young still (for a UFA), and can help develop fellow Russian teammates Podkolzin and Kravtsov.

Seems like a pretty disappointing return for JT Miller if you ask me

Yeah, me too. But the peak of his value was probably this past trade deadline when contenders would've got an extra playoff run with him. More teams could get involved in the bidding in the offseason, but they'd have to be teams at least looking to contend if they're going to give up good futures.

The Canucks could find a way to afford the extension. But the decision needs to be made as to whether his best value years are going to line up with a window of contention for the team. For VAN, probably not. For the Rangers, definitely.

For 1 year for sure but the rangers would in no way be able to afford him past this year

Don't think I would give up both guys for Garland. I think if Smith gets moved, it'd be in really big deal for someone like DeBrincat or Chychurn.

Lol Smith is one of the worst defenseman in the league playing easy minutes. Devil's take that offer and run its awful for the Canucks.

I agree. Don't mind the cap hit, but 8 years at his age is way too long.
