that trade is reaching "Mike Reilly for a 3rd" level of copy/paste lol

I started posting that a while ago, and it was pretty much unanimously agreed to be a good trade for both sides so I just add it now because of that.

Would Dobson be more available than Pulock?

Neither are available. The Isles are not trading core pieces.

So no to Dob or Pulock… got it
Then I’ll look elsewhere for a Scheifele trade

A team that can't score if their life depended on it always has a need for guys that can, especially ones at a PPG pace.

Your comment also rings very true for the Jets.. lol

If they trade Scheifele AND plan on being competitive next season they better have a plan to replace some of Scheifele's offense AND that plan needs to be more than just Perfetti in the top six and brining back Stastny for another year.

I honestly think Toews would be a good 2C get, for a short term stop gap, while we figure out if Perfetti is a C fit, and fix our other issues…. Not to mention address our goaltending if Hellebuyck decides to test FA as rumoured, in 2 years…. Toews shouldn’t cost a fortune, but it’ll depend on if Chicago wants to keep their vets to teach the kids, or move them for assets and cap space

Oh, not calling you out or anything like that! Just funny to me that there's always a handful of trades around here that come off as givens, even if they'll never happen in the real world.

Yeah.. I think it’s once you find something that works and is agreed to work, it’s just one less thing to have to argue about so they keep getting repeated.

For me trades in here are like a combination lock… when you find something that’s agreed to work for both sides, it’s like a number confirmed and you move on to the next one.. all just trying to unlock that elusive perfect trade scenario where everyone agrees

Should've drafted Lundell!

Could have drafted Jarvis, Mercer, or Schneider. All fit into our current needs, but we’d likely be in the same situation, because our coaching is unimaginative and refuses to give the kids the chances they need to advance or succeed

Well, I think the Jets top 6 can score, just not the bottom 6. I just thought it was odd that fans of a team that can't score is saying they don't need scoring.

But I agree on Scheifele, which is why I think there is basically no chance he is moved.

Yeah, it's the Roslovic treatment all over again with the difference being Perfetti has a higher pedigree so he'll do better on the wing than Roslo did when in reality they need to be playing these guys at the position they were drafted.

It's less that the Islanders don't need scoring (they do), it's more about the fact that if they trade Pulock or Dobson there's -nobody- in the system ready to step up and play top 4 minutes, so if they're going to be moved, it has to be for an absolutely slam dunk guy who will be with the team for the long term.

Scheifele is 29 and only has 2 more years left on his contract, plus trading for him forces him to play out of position on the wing. He does fill a scoring need, but the other factors make it less of a slam dunk. I posted earlier in the thread that I think a Pulock deal would work better with one of Winnipeg's top line wingers coming back, because that's what the Islanders need to upgrade.

Put it this way - if an Isles fan put up a trade offer for Josh Morrissey and a 2nd round pick and offered back Brock Nelson (close to PPG this season as 2C), would you see it as an even deal? Your #1 defenseman, plus a 2nd rounder, for an older player who does provide an offensive spark but forces one of him, PLD, or Scheifele to either play on the wing or be wasted at 3C. Or what if they posted Brock Nelson for Cole Perfetti (not a perfect analog for Dobson, but you get the gist)? Just because your team needs scoring help doesn't mean you're going to overpay for a player who "kind of/sort of" fits what you're looking for - you're only moving your stud players or prospects for guys that fit like a glove.

I'd do Morrissey for Nelson from a Jets perspective without a second thought and I really like Morrissey.

We move Scheifele to Nelson's wing and our top six is SOOO much better than it is now.

Yes, I can understand that point of view and being picky on what you want in return, as you should be. It's just the hyperbole of "and we have no use for Scheifele" that doesn't sound true for a team that has trouble scoring.

and all you have to deal with going forward is Logan Stanley starting every night as one of your top 6 D, featuring Nate Schmidt as your LD1 going forward.

That also ties into the first part of what I said - the Islanders only move those guys for an absolute slam dunk because there is no one in the system to jump up and play NHL minutes, unless you think that giving Scott Mayfield and Grant Hutton 38 minutes a night is a good move.

I stand by what I said, too - a deal centered around Pulock for Connor or Ehlers could work if you filled in the margins. Dobson is tougher because he took such a big leap as a 22 year old this year, and it's not hard to imagine him getting better, so I personally think he's off the table.

Yeah I'd be fine with Schmidt or Heinola or Samberg getting more minutes, Stanley is fine on the 3rd pair.

I'd make a Morrissey for Nelson trade without question, ffs that'd be awesome for the Jets.

We can't lose Ehlers or Connor, I'd be more willing to trade Perfetti to be honest.
