if they trade fiala, its gonna be for cap room so i think its unlikely a roster player comes back the other way. most likely prospext or pic. (closer to the reinhart deal). but guerin is a bit unpredictable so who knows.

Doubtful Kevin Fiala takes anything less then $7,000,000 x 7 years. And Hague will be a offer sheet candidate and he's getting more then a $950,000 x 3 deal.

Hague offer is easily beat. He returns better from an offersheet lol. Not to mention that of he was willing to sign that cheap Vegas obviously keeps him.

Florida needs to move Hornqvist's full cap hit without taking any cap back

The deals are a little off but Utilizing cap space and cheating teams that are up against the cap a little and getting more bang for your buck is a smart move IMO.

^this^

Look, people think just because we can't afford him at $7M he's gone... which is possible... but if he signs for anything close to $6M which we can afford, he's staying.

If Fiala was willing to sign for that, we could trade out someone like Kulikov at $2M and keep him.

Zacha to Minnesota makes sense imo

He can play center in the top 6 until Rossi is ready. And he’s not too expensive

Rossi is almost certainly on the roster next year, he isn't right now simply due to reasons sliding his ELC back another year. We already have Hartman and Eriksson-Ek, and acquired Jost who's a similar player to Zacha.

Zacha is of ZERO interest.

I was just benchmarking Fiala deal off Bratt deal.

Bratt $6.30m x 6y
Fiala $6.25m x 6y

NJD have $9.5m in cap space here, so obviously plenty of runway to work with.

A Hague trade seems to make some sense since VGK is loaded on D and they would avoid an offersheet. But I haven’t looked closely enough at Hague to have informed opinion on trade value and contract size.

Any comps you would suggest?

On paper, good plan to take advantage of cap-relates discounts. But unfortunately, our GM likes his dry powder. Ryan Murray was really the only deal of this type he has completed.

Valimaki to Jokiharju should be the range of his next deal for a resign, it will cost more than that to make him sign an OS somewhere else

I’d hate to perpetuate the trend of 1-year high-dollar OS, but Devils could certainly afford one. Would rather just trade a pick or two for him.

The average of Jokiharju and Valimaki = $2.025m = 3rd round pick offer sheet compensation. So Vegas would net an extra 4th by trading him here.

You aren't getting it, that's what I expect him to sign with Vegas. For him to sign an offer sheet you are probably looking at 3.5M+

Fiala's market value is currently sitting at $9.3M according to the Athletic.

So no, you don't.

Unless it's a discount deal to stay in Minnesota, he's not taking anything less than $7-8M on his next contract.

The first part said that Devils could go above market. That is what I meant by 1-year high-dollar.

But if we did go for him, I’d prefer it would be through trade.

That is not a contract projection.
And Bratt’s “value” is $11.1 million.
Didn’t pay that either.

Yeah, I looked at that too. He's not signing for less than $7M either. Fitzgerald can maybe force his hand a bit because he doesn't have arbitration rights. So it's possible he could sign around that amount on a bridge deal. But Fiala does.

There is absolutely ZERO reason for him to sign for less than he's worth if he's traded somewhere else. Including NJ.

The only reason or scenario where I think he might take a discount that low is if he wants to stay in Minnesota. He won't elsewhere.

I'm aware, I've seen it.

Or did it not cross your mind when I directly quoted and used the market value that's blatantly listed on it and referenced it in my comment?

Fiala at $9.3 million a year seems reckless.

I don’t think overall spending will be up that much this year to allow many deals like this. (Cap was up 3% last year vs 1% this year. LTIR rules loom. Inflation will drag profits. Owners still not at 50/50).

I would even take the under on Gaudreau at $9.3m per year. I think Fiala comes in around $6.5-7m. Bratt a bit higher.

I never said he would get that. He's not going to get over $9M when Kaprizov came in at that number himself. Gaudreau probably gets the same or slightly less or more than Kaprizov did, depending on what the term is.

But there isn't a Wild fan in existence who'd scoff at Fiala coming in at $7.5-8M and think he was overpaid. He's easily worth that price point, and you're vastly doing him a disservice by giving him less than he's worth. He's not taking anything under $7M, unless it's to stay in Minnesota. Period.
