Sharks Gamble

Description
Management insists on competing and they'll need a legit center to do so. To actually be a threat to make the playoffs, the Sharks will have to make a few gambles. The first is to sign a bonafide first line center in Kadri, even at an overpay. To do that without destroying our long-term cap situation we trade Burns. I explain in the trade why Dallas seems like a good fit. This is our second game, the third being his replacement, Merkley plays up to his potential.

Labanc and Dahlen are interesting cases. We have an abundance of wings, including Bordeleau, who I would play on wing to catch him up to NHL speed. I'd probably trade Dahlen's rights for a pick. Labanc's buyout isn't too bad, but I think his value could be rehabed on Couture's wing against softer opponents. If he was bought out, I'd use the space on a thrid line center like Copp and move Couture to a second line winger.

Additional Details:
Yes, Burns is 37 years old, but he's still top 15 in scoring and logs huge minutes. If Klingberg really doesn't resign, Burns will be a decent temporary replacement. Between Pavs and his Texas ranch, Burns will most likely waive.

Dallas can’t afford Burns and I don’t see Burns ever leaving SJ

I think you are both right. Dallas can't afford Burns, but I do see if Burns were to leave it makes sense in Dallas.

In my opinion we don't need a center especially Kadri with this price. We need a big goal-scoring winger. Even if we close eyes on this price, I can't see Kadri in our jersey.

imagine this year with Kane giving us 30 goals 70 points on the 1LW! that is the difference between us bowing out and in the hunt. we’re closer than people think to competing.

Stars already have too many bad contracts that extend into player's late 30's. Dallas' focus needs to be on getting younger and building around their quartet of Hintz, Heiskanen, Robertson, and Oettinger.

Trading a 1st Round Pick for already in his late 30's is counterproductive toward that direction, especially with how well they've drafted over the last few years

Better hope you land Juraj Slafkovsky in the draft

I feel like Couture would be a elite 3C or a solid top 6 wing on a contending team. I don't see Bords being ready for top 9 center duty, yet, and 3C is just too much for Bonino. Ideally we'd get at least a solid 3C on a short term contract and an elite power forward to replace Kane. Would be awesome if we at least won the consolation lotto and drafted Slaf 2nd overall. He'd be perfect for the Shark's future.

Don't blame you for wanting to hang onto the pick and draft another Johnston. Guy is gonna be a stud.
