IF Caps trade Vanecek, they'll get a much better return than that.

You're right, they probably could get a 2nd rounder or two in reality because of the demand. May make that edit

As a Sabres fan I think I would be perfectly happy with Lars Eller replacing Cody Eakin. I was under the impression that Washington was more willing to trade Samsonov than Vanicek. Vanicek seems to have higher trade value right now, but he’s also played better. What is Samsonov’s trade value?

I could not tell you either of their trade value anymore tbh. They both have their weaknesses and right when you think Ike of them may be getting it together it falls apart. Vanecek has better numbers throw season, but oddly enough, Samsonov has a better record. It makes no sense.

With Eller, I figured for Buffalo being up and coming it can’t hurt to have a veteran middle 6 center. He’s looked the best he has all season playing with Mantha and Wilson on the wings. I love what he brings on and off the ice but a real possibility for cap casualty and efforts to try to get younger

Understandable with the price point. Where I’m coming from with that number is how competitive the goalie market will be. Us, Oilers, Devils, Sabres, Blackhawks, maybe the Leafs and Wild are teams I can think of for the goalie market

Caps fans would prefer to trade Samsonov, but management thinks he has higher potential. They protected him over Vanecek in the expansion draft. Hard to say what his trade value is, because his numbers haven't been good.

Many fans want Samsonov gone, but without going too much into my spiel about how Samsonov is better than the stats say, I will say that Vanecek is the one looked at by management since he has a far lower ceiling and seems to have struggles tracking the puck. Both are better than many spoiled caps fans will tell you, but due to the cap, one could be gone in the next year or two, but likely not this year imo. Both haven't cemented themselves as a 1G and I think management agrees with me when I say that the Caps need to play the current goalies so they can have the NHL experience, not sheltering them for forever behind a different goalie (I think abut Thomas Greiss in this regard)
