Cap Space is New Jersey's friend, and they have a lot of assets they could use to strengthen the team. I'll be interested to see if Blackwood stays considering all the gossip around his injury and the team's handling of it. I'd love to see them add some better supporting pieces for Hughes and Hischier. They need one more legit top 6 winger, Holtz to take the next step, and the goaltending to bounce back.

Doubt Vegas wants Tatar back nor do I see them having the cap space.

Don't think Tampa will trade Sergachev, doubt the Caps trade Samsonov either.

Yeah I don't think that gets Sergachev. Probably needs to be a decent 1st rounder or better prospect than Foote.

I believe the Blackwood situation is more on Blackwood.
The complaints about the "teams handling of his injury" only came out when he was already in the doghouse.
He came into this season completely unprepared. Waited to tell coaching staff he was playing hurt. And by rostering him early, we lost Wedgewood via waivers in the process.

We need to
(1) Address goaltending
(2) Add a winger who can play interior play and in front of net (not necessarily a top-6 guy)
(3) Extend Bratt
(4) Extend Severson

Everything else can come from within pipeline

I feel like NJ needs one more top 6 guy at least. Tatar and Johnsson aren't necessarily top 6 guys, they're 3rd liners on a playoff team. This team has tons of cap, good pieces in the farm, why not add another supporting player? Most good teams have 4+ forwards that are top line worthy.

Bratt and Hughes only really play together in “need a goal” situations. Mercer and Sharangovich are both looking like top-6 wings, but we could use them both at 3C. Base right now has:

Sharangovich - Hughes - Mercer
Holtz - Hischier - Bratt

Gritsyuk, Zetterlund, Foote, Salminen, Thompson, Clarke and whomever we draft in 2022 could all be in running someday too.

But if we added a Boeser, Fiala, or Forsberg into the mix and shifted Mercer or Sharangovich to 3C, that would be nice.
