Description

What this offseason does

1. Gives us a cap cushion. By trading Myers, Boeser and Pearson we clear up enough cap to bring back Miller and Horvat next offseason which is something the FO seems to want

2. Keep the core (mostly) intact. Boeser is the main piece we move but bringing in Marino fills more of a need so it is worth it.

3. Get faster. This is mainly accomplished with the Boeser for Kapanen swap. Boeser is good but the new regime likes speed which Boeser doesn't have but Kapanen does in spades

I could also see us trading one of Hoglander or Miller and bringing in Kuzmenko to replace them in the top 9 but I decided to leave that idea alone for now. (Partly because I cant think of a good Miller trade)

This is more of a prediction then what I would do. I am 50-50 one whether the FO wants to trade Miller. There have been a lot of conflicting reports. I personally think we should trade him but I can understand keeping him

I can’t see this happening. Too much cap for pit to take on, and I don’t see a world where Van decides to trade away both Boeser and Pearson and roll Chiasson in the top 6

you said it yourself. "too much cap for Pit to take on" Garland is closer to what they want, but they'd be losing out on their own free agents if they made that deal.

The cap reality for VAN isn't all that bad. If they want to they could probably extend all of Boeser, Miller and Horvat, but it would come at the expense of a blueline upgrade.

I cant see it as Marino is just to good rn. Hes a young 2-way RD who is part of their future. Makes 0 sense for Pittsburgh to trade him

Really have 0 need for Boeser as they can just extend Rakell for less and got other scoring wings like Rust and Guentzel amongst others.
