Yeah this isn't close for Ottawa at all. Zub is 26 and a top shutdown RHD. Sens need him way more than they need Karl. Even at 8mil that's not a good deal and will eventually cause major cap problems for Ottawa.

You would also have to reach a deal with Karlsson himself because he has a NMC.

We also don't have an owner in place to pay out his contract.

Your trade idea doesn't even get off the ground.

Sorry.

Maybe if they get an indication that Zub would likely leave and hit the UFA market at the end of the year it may make more sense, take out one of the 2nds too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for this from the Sharks or Sens perspective one way or another, just trying to see how things could look like if EK65 would be glad to go back to OTT and the new Sharks GM would want him out if the possibility is there with an OTT trade.

Even if Zub decided he absolutely wouldn't extend here (despite picking Ottawa out of about 20+ teams as a free agent), Ottawa does so much better just trading him outright. They easily get a 1st for him at the deadline, more if it somehow happens this summer. Even at 50% retained (Which I can't imagine SJS doing) betting on Karlsson really just doesn't seem like a sound move at all. Love him to death but the team is growing and getting better and Karl is doing neither of those things.

If he somehow had his deal terminated I'd be offering him a chance to come home, but on that deal no chance. The term is just as problematic as the AAV.

Ottawa and Philly decline, And Zadorov will probably get closer to $4,000,000 x 4 years.
