Description
La is one of the teams I see most likely going after Chychuryn. Montreal and NYI as well.

Toronto trade gives leafs cap room and it gives Arizona futures. Plus Holl could be sold at the deadline for another pick.

Montreal trade opens up a bit of cap space for Montreal. Arizona gets a better pick + they get Webbers contract which is super high cap and very low actual dollars for many years. The contract would be amazing for them to have to hit the cap floor for future years and not have to spend that much money. I view his contract as having slight value or at least not negative value.

This team will be BAD again. but they have a lot of futures.

Also, if they get a solid package they should trade Crouse as well in my mind! What teams would have interest in him? I would say a 22-32 overall pick for Crouse seems fair.

Thoughts?

Montreal is not giving up all that and only getting back a 6th, Weber's contact alone to Arizona is worth a 2nd. The 3rd to dump Armia is ok IF we can't find a more suitable trade for him.

Webers contract is not gonna get you a 2nd round pick... I will eat my words if I am wrong. It has some value to Arizona for sure. But they only take on Armia at all because they also get Weber. Maybe the trade happens a bit differently but I doubt you get a 2nd round pick for Weber.

I do something on these lines between Montreal and Arizona being quite probable. You can swap Armia with Byron as well.

With price potentially going on ltir theres no urgency for them to trade anyone (they wouldn't be able to accrue cap ) they arent going to spend assets to move armia.

Arizona needs the deal much more than the habs do. If they want to trade JC they need to take on quite a bit of cap to even reach the floor which with the arena situation will be near impossible through free agency.

Also they will need the weber contract for the future. In a couple seasons when the player repayment is done the cap could jump 10+ million in 1 season which would coincide with the floor raising as well. They cant afford to meet the floor in actual dollars today how will they do that in a few seasons with a 5k arena.

Habs accept. If we can get Weber off the books we can get more cap in the beginning of the year and name Suzuki as Captain.

Weber is LTIR for habs. he won't affect starting caps for Montreal in a negative way. The biggest gain for montreal from these trade is losing Armia. Montreal has too many wingers signed to 3m+ a year.

Weber is IR for Arizona which will actually benefit them.

They still have too many wingers signed to 3m+ a year. If they can get rid of Armia and/or Byron that would be huge to help them construct a proper roster. Drouin and Hoffman are also potential guys to trade to help solve that.

but yes Arizona would love the Weber contract for sure.

Theres no urgency to move them. Drouin and byron expire next season, hoffman the year after. With petry likely gone 2 money is largely irrelevant.

The 3 most likely ahlers to make the jump up front (ylonen rhp and teasdale) are all waiver exempt for next season

The habs would give them webers contract if they took hofman or armia but they dont need to pay to get rid of them at this time

The Weber to Arizona deal will probably look very similar to the Little TDL move.
Probably a prospect Habs won't/can't sign + Weber for a mid-round pick. We can debate money owed/value/necessity to move or acquire, but the precedent is set.

We're not including one of our two NHL-qualified LDs in any trades, even for Chychrun. The idea of trading for Chychrun is to add and improve the left side of our defense, not upgrade from Bjornfot to Chychrun.
