Dahlin and Samuelsson are elite together. No need to split them up.
Trading a 4th for Hornqvist seems silly when there's so many better options for free as UFAs and we have all the cap we could want to spend.

If you are moving olofsson, jokiharju, and a 2nd- that better be some haul you get back if you move him at the deadline. Some incredible haul.

    here comes the analytics nerd!

Both of these players have awful underlying metrics. Severson is likely more valuable, on the ice, than both combined.

    Severson WAR: 0.4
    Olofsson WAR: 0.2
    Jokiharju WAR: -1.2

Love numbers, but also Olofssons numbers are a bit skewed as he was bad early because of an injury and he didn't get back into a groove for a bit... Olofsson is probably worth severson 1 for 1. And I wouldn't 1 for 1 with Jokiharju just because he's 22.

Toronto counters with the 23' 3rd. No need for TOR to give up a 1st, 2nd, or a top prospect. His contract is buyout friendly (only an average of 1.15M for 4 seasons). People need to stop thinking Toronto is paying to get out of 3.8M cap hit. We are only paying to get out of the 800K-1.4M cap hit. That's not worth a prime asset.

And to be clear, I understand the other side of it. Frankly, doesn't make sense for the Leafs to pay a premium to avoid the soft buyout cost, (mainly due to the draft capital we are already missing. If we had all of our picks, could be a different story) and doesn't make sense for teams like Buffalo, Arizona, Chicago, to take him on the current contract.

So everyone just agree that Mrazek will be bought out smile

They might be close enough over the last 3 years in WAR, but I personally wouldn't want the devils to make the trade one for one.

Their xWAR is even more stark, where Severson's worst over the last 3 years is better than Olofsson's best. Just, personally, I don't like it. Maybe the Devils do.

Yea, I don't think it's smart for either... especially if severson doesn't have an extension.
