More Competitive Sabres

Created by: SabresFan78
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2022
Published: May 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rust - Veteran leadership to help Mitts, Cozens, Quinn etc. Plus helps get Sabres to floor.
Olofsson - good player but need to free up roster space for players especially two-way players.
Gudas - good hitter/partner for Samuelsson.
Bush - good young, steady partner for Power.
Deslauriers - character guy, plays with grit.
Korpisolo - take one year flyer to wait for other young goalies. Probably not going to get Husso.

Not perfect by any stretch but I think all of these moves are realistic and reasonable.

Joonas looked pretty brutal last year, but the goalie market isn't exactly awash with options.

Running a platoon with UPL/Tokarski/Insert name of non-Husso goaltender here might produce similar or slightly better results and save the team a couple mil.

Why is Olofsson traded so often? Just curious. Seems like a solid 50+ point top six winger that’s still somewhat young. Take Faksa back if we up the pick to a first rounder? Lol

Personally I don’t want to trade away Olofsson at all, but he is one year away from UFA and could be the odd man out when you consider how many players need new deals in the next couple years. I used to like Radek Faksa a lot, but now his contract is awful and he’s just not producing. The Sabres would sooner re-sign Cody Eakin than trade away assets for a guy who is just as bad. I hope they do neither.

I still think good Faksa is in there somewhere. He’s just been labeled as a defense only player and gets horrible usage and line mates. I’m hoping we’re getting a better coach next year and things change, but even if we did things different and he improved I’d prefer that cap elsewhere long term

Not someone most Sabres fans want to move. Just my opinion, but the team just needs to get harder to play against, and he's the odd man out. Can't move Krebs and any trade with Mittelstadt would be selling low on him.

This site is obsessed with Korpisalo, one of the worst goalies in the entire league.

Just giving away olfosson for a late 2nd so we can hilariously overpay deslauriers?
