Description
NJ has a lot of young players and not many vets. This deal gets them two vet leaders, Miller plays LW. They get huge help up front and only slight downgrade on defense.

Devils: Canucks 1st, Miller
Canucks: Severson, Devils 1st

I think that is a better deal, i doubt the devils will trade severson and their first just for miller

No. Even with Severson and Myers removed it would still be a no.

I'm fine with Fitz moving the 1st, it won't be for Miller though.

Miller doesn't fit the timeline of the current cores competitive window. He's a pending UFA who is going to get a huge payday (8-9 mill). Not only that they get the pleasure of taking on a worse defender at a bigger cap hit. So if they sign Miller/take on Myers now they have no cap for future signings like Sharangovich or they risk losing Miller for nothing. Myers has NTC do you think he waves? OEL has a NMC, don't see him going anywhere.

and on top of all that they give away a top 5 pick. To me the risk/reward isn't there. There's probably cheaper UFA options they could pursue where they don't take on all that cap or they use that pick to get a guy like Fiala because of Minny's cap situation.

Your best bet is trading Miller to a current cup contender like Florida/Carolina who want to continue staying competitive.

What do you think he would be targeting with that pick, realistic names you're thinking? Why not Miller?

Stop with the rental stuff. You wouldn't make it for a rental. It'd be with the intention to sign him.

What do you think you could get for that pick?

Myers NTC is 10 team and doesn't kick in till July 1st.

Fiala is younger but sort of doesn't fill a role the way Miller does in my mind. He is just another scorer, not and intangibles guys. Devil's have enough of that already I'd say. I'd also argue vet leadership could really benefit this team and that with decent goaltending the Devil's could be competing next season.

There are teams that will pay up for Miller.

You might be right. My opinion is they're ready. They score like crazy, just need some structure and a goalie. Couple vets wouldn't hurt.
