Description
So looking at most rankings, Liljegren appears to be available around the 8-12 mark. Leafs currently hold the 18th overall pick so to move up would be thir first, a second and a prospect. Its alot but Liljegren would be worth it. He was slated to go second overall and could be a steal that late. I traded the pick to buffalo but literally offer any team in that range that package and hope one accepts.

Next move martin out and gain halak and pulock. Martin will be a welcome edition to NYI and halak would solve our backup problem for next year. Pulock would be available due to their depth and the expansion draft. Not having to retain on Halak and getting a second seems fair.

Acquire Fleury from carolina for carrick, leivo and a pick. Carrick was bearly used by babcock in the playoffs showing the lack of trust. Leivo is a solid bottom six winger but with our depth unlikely to get a chance.

Next minor trades shipping Fehr, Marincin and Marchenko out.

Trade for Sheahan. Solid two way player thats young and familiar with babcock. Could turn into a steal but as of now that all he is worth. Maybe a 4th instrad of the 6th but nothing more.

The resultant defense group is really young but all capable and all potential top 4 defenseman. Best case senario they all pan out giving us trade chips for the future. The centre group is solid and next year when we lose bozak we can shift nylander to centre giving us Matthews-kadri-nylander-shehan/gauthier. Rw is stacked this year and next year we have bracco that can make the jump giving us a marner-brown-kapenen-bracco. At lw would be our biggest "hole" with the loss of jvr and komarov, we would be thin with hyman-rychel-grundstrom-timashov/lindberg/johnson. Hyman is a solid 3rd line lw long term. Grundstrom qppears to be a komarov with more goal scoring fitting well next to nylander. And of the other three mentione, either one could fill the last lw position. The hole could potentially be filled by rychel who has developed alot this year and looks super dangerous. Or may be a bust. But its a risk worth taking. Our lines would the be:

Rychel-matthews-marner
Grundstrom-nylander-kapenen
Hyman-kadri-bracco
Lindberg-sheahan- brown

If last year is any indication, Sheehan is not a "solid two way player." His production has declined every year. Admitting your haven't really traded anything for him. Why would any team give up two fourth rounders for Marchenko?

Great description, here are my thoughts:
-Don't want a centerman with less goals than Roman Polak (Sheahan)
-I think Babs and Lou love Martin so I can't see them trading him, but I think NYI are definitely a team we can tango with (in trades)
-Did Babs lose faith in Carrick or was he injured? I honestly don't know but I'm not a fan of trading him TBH
-I can't see BUF trading down, they only hit on their picks when its in the top 10... BUT I do agree with you about trading up... If Timmy falls to #11 I could see us pulling a deal with LA

I know what you mean but sheahan is young at 25 and his production has got worse on a declining team. He is still adept in his own end and has previosly scored 36 points..a mark brian boyle hasnt achieved in his career. Now i think its worth the risk. Worst case we lost vailev and a 6th. Best case we have a 4th line center for the next 5-6 years. Also the two fourths arent really monumental pieces..not planning the parade off of them. One fourth as opposed to two would still be fine..point is to move the salary out

Sheahan has had 36 points under babcock before so he may be worth the little risk we take for him..we need a fourth line centre and sheahan can play defense well enough to fill that role in my opinion.
I agree martin is adored by the coach but at the same time..we need to let some lw prospects play to see what we have..i didnt want to trade him to anyone other than the nyi because that is essentially his home
Carrick is a tough one..does he have top 4 potential?..i dont think so..can he be a 3rd pairing guy...probably but at that cost fleury is way better and has higher potential..carrick is a decent player but if i had a choice between the two..id pick fleury 9 times out of 10.
And yeah i just selected the team randomly as stated in my description..but ur suggestion of LA is probably the best fit

Im a fan of moving up for a d in the draft, good call there. Liljegren or even Foote I would definitely hope they move up for. Also I like your idea of trying to get something for marchenko and marincin as hopefully they will not be with the team next season. However, I am not a fan of Sheahan at all, I would much prefer to resign Boyle, great veteran leadership and seemed to embrace his role on the team.

I am also not a huge fan of Fleury, but I admit I haven't followed his development much. I know when he was in the world junior tournament he wad pretty bad. Interesting to see what they will try to do to upgrade the d. Good stuff. Go leafs go.
