I like the idea for all sides here tbh. Detroit can draft a legit 1C in Cooley, Minnesota clears cap and gets solid assets (tho they might prefer something more NHL ready than that 2nd). NJ gets a legit 1st liner. Maybe replace the 2nd going to Minnesota with Filip Zadina, and then Minnesota sends a 4th to Detroit
Definitely Zadina, he still has Fiala like potential but needs a change of scenery.
And he's still young yet, same age as Fiala was when we acquired him for Granlund. So he's a good cheap buy low candidate that we can try and develop into a star player like we did with Fiala. Without him, it doesn't feel like we're getting enough back for Kevin in this deal. 8th overall plus Zadina makes it worthwhile
That said, New Jersey isn't getting enough back here to justify dropping out of the 1st round. Let alone the top ten all together. I think if the Detroit 2nd was switched out for a prospect like say Hronek and a later pick they might actually consider this.
So, in closing.
MIN:
Out - Fiala
In - 22' 1st (DET) => 8th ova + Zadina
NJD:
Out - 22' 1st (NJD) => 2nd ova
In - Fiala + Hronek, 23' 2nd (STL) + 3rd/4th?*
DET:
Out - 22' 1st (DET) => 8th ova + Hronek + Zadina, 23' 2nd (STL) + 3rd/4th?*
In - 22' 1st (NJD) => 2nd ova
It's a steep price for Detroit, but you're getting a top 3 pick and the 1C you need in Cooley. Still worth it, imo.
