A top pairing defenseman, a top line forward and a 1sr round pick for someone who will he a UFaA in 2 years ? They’d be lucky to get that.

Why trade for Matthews when another playoff disappointment means he'll be leaving in July 2024 anyways.

Good thing Toronto doesn't play in a division with Florida, TB, Boston and in the same conference as Carolina, NYR, and Washington...oh wait they do.

I hope Dubas figured out a way to trade Tavares to extend Matthews before this.

Matthews extension wont be that much to where you need to move JT to make it happen. 13.5-14mill x 8 years at most. By the time its due the cap should be around 85mill

People say hes going to Arizona but they cant afford him. They can barely afford what they have rn. By the time hes up they will be in Houston.

Matthews is generational talent

That doesnt get him especially with the season he had

Eichel got more than that and hes worse

If Arizona wants him its gonna cost alot more.

TBH i think you over paid in terms of Asset's
TML gets value from the Cap/Contract relief
Like TBL moving out Miller for a profit it
Resulted Directly in the rise of Cirelli who was clutch in 2 cup runs.

Moving out Matthews without taking on an Established player makes room for Knies among others
I'd be looking more at Chycrun ,Crouse's RFA rights, ARZ 3rd OA so TML can draft Logan Cooley aka Matthews Lite

Thats a good foundation that address's both teams needs
After that its about finding balance.

For TML the 7m cap they'll save gives them a chance to add a Patrick Kane or JT Miller if they really wanted via trade
Or add a Letang

and even if they knew matthews was gone as a ufa, someone would blow this offer out of the water. and matthews would never sign with arizona

I dont
Like Price i think TML fans gotta accept that Tavares isnt going anywhere
They'll always speculate and wish for it but the players themselves are not waiving

Matthews or Marner is the Miller like Event that will create room for a Cirelli to Emerge and go on a cup run or two for much less
I think you'll get more out of Matthews who like Wendal Clarke will leave cupless and long after his trade value's diminished
Marner can grab quite a bit but no where near a #1 Center's Value that either Matthews or Tavares would fetch

Matthews would never sign for his home town childhood team? Are you serious?

His childhood team has been a relocation or fold threat for 99% of their existance and just moved to a college rink. so yeah, im serious.
