Team Explanation
I saw this Kings trade a few days ago and it was generally poorly received by Sabres fans much to my surprise. I wanted to post it again because I think that if this was on the table Kevyn Adams should be all over it. Granted neither Turcotte nor Mitts have been the players they were anticipated to be at their respective drafts, but they have both dealt with some injuries throughout their development. In my opinion at this point the ceiling for Mitts is a middle 6 center (and there is nothing wrong with that) and I think that the floor for Turcotte is in that same ballpark. I just think that Turcotte still has more in the way of upside. In my opinion Mitts won't be a part of the long term core in Buffalo (I'd be very glad to see him prove me wrong) and I think that Turcotte gives you another young Center with that top 6 upside. I like the idea of having 3 young guys (Cozens, Krebs, Turcotte) that all have top 6 center potential at the NHL level. Also, this roster gives us 5 chances for ROTY and we must have it.

PS - sorry if the description seems scatter-brained, I was going back and forth between a few things. Moral of the story is I think they should make the Kings deal if presented the opportunity.

Lastly, in my opinion the Kings trade is them selling low on Turcotte.

I am just really down or turcotte. We already have 2 1st round centers from that draft too.

As a Kings fan, Turcotte's development has been nothing but speed bump after speed bump, which is extremely concerning. Not the latest of which is a concussion that happened about a week ago after a MONSTER cheap shot from a Colorado Eagles player. This is his second concussion in his career (both happened this season).

Turcotte's health will come first before the Kings decide to do anything with him. That being said, I'd still take my chances on Turc over Casey, who I'm just not impressed with. At least when Turcotte is on the ice, I am always impressed with his play (even if it is AHL). And the fact that he was in the AHL was more due to 1) roster limitations/blocks in bottom-6 players with NHL contracts and 2) the desire to give him more time to put on muscle/grow into his body more. I don't think it's ever been a question of NHL skill needing more development for Turc.

Grans for Johnson is fine. It might even be another way for the Kings to ensure Brock Faber does sign with LA instead of going the 4-year college loop-hole route after next year. Faber is going to be a junior this year after just BARELY missing out on winning a Frozen Four championship, so I won't worry about that possibility unless he says at the end of next season that he's going to stay in college for his senior year.

Why would Sabres trade for Matt Murray ? He could have been claimed from waivers and no one bit.

if Kings fans like it you know the Sabres are getting the short end.
    Mitts > Turcotte
    Johnson > Grans
