Hence the overpayment. This is all hypothetical anyway as are the rest of these armchair GMS.

It’s okay if you don’t like it lol not trying to please you. Graves is on an expiring deal, likely to be dealt by the deadline

Wouldn’t an aging team want a heavier focus on futures, and good ones at that?

Nylander is only 25 and proven, Sandin is a 22 year old NHL ready defenceman, Hirvonen is a young prospect taken in the second round in 2020 could still develop well, and a first round pick in next years draft. With Bergeron’s future uncertain, Marchand on his way to the leafs in this scenario, Pastrnak McAvoy and Nylander would be key pieces for the Bruins and wouldn’t require a full rebuild. I think it works for both teams personally, but to each their own smile

I don't think the Devils make that move, since it doesn't really improve them.

Graves is younger than Muzzin and on a friendler deal, as for Mrazek if the Devils wanted him, they could have picked him up on waivers.

I doubt they trade Graves and a pick for that package.

That’s fair! I was looking at it from a standpoint as to where Muzzin has more term and I feel would be a great fit with Dougie, while Graves is on an expiring deal and as for Mrazek, I know it’s unlikely he goes, but I know NJ has had some goalie issues so figured I’d throw him in as well

Right. Aaaaaand the trade should still be heavily focused on futures, and good ones.

How young does futures have to be for you to be content? 20, 22 and 25 year old players all have insanely bright futures if given the right opportunities, PLUS a first round pick in a predicted deep draft all for a 34 year old vet. I personally think it’s a fair trade, and there’s been people agree, so 🤷🏼‍♂️

While i dont love moving 63 to the leafs, if it were to that point i think the value is more than fair. It just depends on whether Boston wants to target Nylander or go younger (Knies, etc.) I think Sandin is a good player, and I really liked Hirvonen in the draft. I'm not sure if Nylander is the best fit for Boston, but i know he has a good relationship with Pastrnak, and 80 point 26 year old players on fair deals dont grow on trees. I think the value is there, just not sure if thats exactly the direction Boston would go in this situation. Good post, interesting trade!!

He’s 22 years old, if you wanna nit pick the term prospect so be it, but the Bruins don’t have any “prospects” as good as him on defense. Young enough to be considered a future.

I think the trade idea makes sense for Boston, given the fact Marchand has 3 yrs left with that deal and nylander expires sooner I think Bos would want more such as trading up for TOR 2022 first in exchange for their second rd pick this yr for example. Hirvonen is fantastic in Liiga which is a really hard league to play in for someone his age. Sandin had a great season and a first would do boston well in 2023. ofc nylander who even if boston wanted to do full rebuild could get a very great return.

I like lohrei. And he’s actually a prospect. More importantly, he’s actually a, “future.”

Sandin has spent parts of 3 years in the NHL. He’s off his ELC for crying out loud. No one off their ELC is a prospect.

You’re not getting what future means.
Sandin is an NHLer coming off his ELC.
Lohrei is a college hockey player that hasn’t begun his ELC.
One is a prospect. The other is not.
One is a future. The other is not.

This isn’t hard.
