Coming off a 85 point season, Kevin Fiala isn't signing that low ball offer. try more like $8,000,000 x 8 years to $8,500,000 x 8 years. he'd stay in Minnesota for that low ball offer.

Devils would be better off offering $8m offersheet and losing a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, instead of losing Holtz too.

Only problem with that, is that more than likely Kevin Fiala is dealt at the draft. rendering any offer sheet useless.

The issue with Fiala is that you have to offer him longer contract that Minnesota cannot match, not even talking about offer sheeting, just talk to agent, say we can give you 7x7,5 or something, set the market v, and then talk to Wild, who have no cap space and cannot offer him anything in this range. Then you have to give like 2x1st round picks for him. And all that on top of contract year from a player that may never have season like that.

A lot of money and assets put on the table.

If someone is willing to give the offer that is put here, the Devils would be better off not being in that bidding war.

I'm saying this in actual honesty as I've posted this a few times....who are the Devils truly even bidding against that have 1) Cap room 2) Assets to trade 3) Willingness to win NOW 4) Actual money from owners?

I see Ottawa rumors, but is Ottawa ownership going to spend now?

Even if they are, Guerin literally told everyone yesterday that they probably won't be able to sign him. A bidding war may evolve but both participants know that Guerin is all but forced to move him. I'd be shocked if a top 10 pick is traded.

Oh, I get he MORE than likely has to be traded (although if I am Guerin I would lock up Fiala and trade Dumba, Jost, Greenway, and Kulikov...I think that gets them under). I'm by no means an expert, but I'd like to know why I am wrong that keeping any of those players is a better plan.

You're not. They would be much better off doing so. Doesn't seem like they will, though.

OTT higher ups had been scouting MN (Fiala is the only player that makes sense) for most of the season. It was strange at first with the travel restrictions, not matching up at all as a trade partner for last season, and OTT playing in Cali that same day, etc. This happened several times.

Holtz + 2nd is a reasonable deal. Have the 2nd turn into a 1st if NDJ wins a Playoff round or something next season. I'd rather have Holtz than a 5-10 range draft pick this year if I'm MN. Holtz fits their Kaprizov window better.

My wonder with OTT is with Melnyk dying, if that give Dorion more leash to rebuild long term rather than rushing it for a trade for a Fiala to keep his job based on Melnyk's "years of unprecedented success" statement

I think it would be the opposite actually. He's been there 6 years and only has the 1 Playoff appearance.

I don't think the player picked at 7oa will turn out than Fiala. It's not a great UFA bunch, and OTT isn't a prime choice destination right now. It's a pretty good bet for OTT imo.

Fiala isn't going to be around for an offer sheet. Thats starts Mid July, Fiala will be traded before or at the draft. If NJ doesn't offer #2 pick, they won't get Fiala
