Ottawa Senators

Created by: sensibleguy
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2022
Published: May 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Edit: swapped Pinto and White

Decided on a status quo lineup, no additions, everyone healthy to start the season.

Stützles line moves to the top, and using forward pairings
Stützle/Batherson
Tkachuk/Norris
Formenton/Brown (PK duo)

Instead of the standard two forward one defence healthy scratch, I put a third goalie instead of one of the forwards. Let the cream rise to the top.

Ottawa could trade Pinto for an impact winger and keep White as 3C and not be in a bad spot imo. I don't think they will or even should, but everything but the point totals suggest that he's a lot better than he's credited for. With health, I think a Formenton-White-Brown 3rd line would be pretty money next year.

Still think the buyout is coming and he's gonna go figure it out in Boston, and I think Pinto is gonna stay in Ottawa too.

If we acquire nobody then I hope this would happen :

Tkachuk - Norris - Joseph
Greig - Stutzle - Batherson
Formenton - Pinto - Brown
Kelly - Kastelic - Watson
Gambrell

I like White but he's not a Top-6 forward and should be on the 3rd line. However, I would rather have all of Formenton, Pinto, Brown and Joseph (if we acquire someone) on the 3rd line too. Nick Paul too if we could re-sign him. So we might have to think about saving money (owed 15.75 M$ for the next 3 years)

Might as well buy him out or trade him in a package to get a Top-6 Winger (with the 7th OA pick and another asset? Like Brannstrom for example)

I think Boston would be very interested in Boston local Colin White, if he were to be bought out, with Bergeron’s future unclear.

Hurting his shoulder on a faceoff definitely gives me pause. Let’s swap Pinto and White in my lineup…

Definitely a lot of 3rd line forwards and bottom pair defencemen on this team, lol

He didn’t really hurt it. He re-aggravated it when he came back and wasn’t 100%

It might be semantics, but if “aggravating” it can require surgery, then it’s hurt, and if it can be “aggravated” once on a faceoff, it might be “aggravated” again on another faceoff.

It’s these responses that make me regret posting on this site.

I get it, you hate White and love Pinto, you love Zub and hate Zaitsev, you hate Murray and…

Not fixing this…

Zaitsev ices the puck too much and always panics instead of turning back to keep possession.

White and Connor Brown aren’t very good with the puck and have hard time creating offence.

I don’t mind Matt Murray but Forsberg is the clear #1 right now

Zaitsev had the highest CoC this season, again, he’s out against the other teams best, shift after shift. Icing the puck happens, and sometimes it’s deliberate. I laughed during last nights game when the broadcasters actually stated that after an icing. It stopped play and allowed the defenders to rest a moment. If you dont have a clear exit, ice it rather than turn it over. There’s a reason Zaitsev led the Sens defencemen in fewest giveaways per 60.

White, with his 55% corsi, had a PDO of 933, which is extremely low.

Murray is either healthy and plays well, or he continues to have concussion symptoms and ends up on LTIR

Yeah but it's not bad thing for a few reasons :

1) it's not clear for fans yet but eventually people are going to talk more about top-9 than top-6. The more and more analysts will talk about it on TV, the faster the transition will be made. You want guys like Danault, Pageau, Brown, Formenton on your 3rd line. They often make the difference in the playoffs as great teams have similar very good top-6 groups

2) We are just getting out of a scorched earth rebuild. 100% roster turnover and our GM is barely able to acquire talent outside of drafting or prospects acquired in the firesale

3) Connor Brown has been producing good 2nd line numbers the last 3 seasons but ideally he'd be on the 3rd line because the goal is to better than our rival teams, not just being able to keep up with them

Clear Top-6 forwards : Stutzle, Batherson, Norris, Tkachuk

In between : Brown, Joseph

Remains to be seen : Formenton, Pinto, Greig

Clear Bot-6 forwards : White, Kelly, Kastelic, Watson, Gambrell

Don't forget the incoming 7th OA pick and the forward prospects with potential (Jarventie, Sokolov, Ostapchuk, Boucher (? lol), etc.)

For the defense, yes it's a bad thing because there's only 2 clear Top-4 D-men so far (Chabot and Zub). You need 4, Sanderson will be one too.
