I doubt he would be top 4. Maybe 4-6 after Yzerman takes care of things. Not a good value contract in my opinion. He would look better for 3 million a yr. So if you want to retain but your getting rid of him because you need cap space. Shop him somewhere else for that price.

Supply and demand. Normally, Pettersson would be worth more. Pens are only trading him because they need Cap space. But there's other options for Detroit. Martinez in Vegas. They're in cap hell. Schmidt in Winnipeg. That's just the trade market. Marc Staal will likely be re-signed. Edvinsson could make the team this season. Plus we still have Walman and Oesterle. Stevie is just buying time for Edvinsson, Johansson and Wallinder.
