By no means do I think a 3rd for Allen is a bad value, I just think Allen would be a plan J or K after goalies like Husso or Campbell, and then a few other backups that could contend for 1A with Blackwood and push him. Definitely a deal circled back to in mid July.

I totally get that and IF he isn't moved we simply wouldn't have to include Georgiev in the Rags trade. I am just planning ahead for the worst case scenario where Price retires. It doesn't really have to be NJ either.

Don’t know if the Flyers do that. JVR’s contract is expiring at the end of the year, I don’t get why Flyers fans think we need to move him instead of just trading him with double retention at the deadline

LOL, it's a futures trade. We get a temporary fill-in (who we may be able to resign for slightly less if we wanted) top 6 forward and gain 7 mil cap space at the end of next season and we get a really good young 3C to grow with Zuke and Wright.

Habs would need to add a sweetner in that JVR trade

For what? JR'S cap is almost 2 times as much as Hoffmans and both are 20 goal scorers. Neither are a "cap dump" but neither are hottly sought after players either. Their values based on contracts are equal.

Hoffman's extra year makes him worth less, and the Flyers have no incentive to dump JVR if Hoffman's taking up most of that cleared cap.
We would only be dumping JVR to sign someone like Gaudreau/Forsberg/Kadri etc, so we'd have to get something extra back to make this worth it

If you think that Hoffman has less value than JVR, you are already lost in the woods. This is a lateral move for sure but the incentive for the Flyers is the 2.5 Mil cap space gained per season. With JVR on the roster, the Flyers can't make a splash in FA and if they try to move him on his own with out taking back some cap or giving up a 1st round pick you are mistaken. If you retain half on JVR. Teams are not going to line up to give up assets for JVR.

Never said he was actually worth anything. They're going to look to dump his contract in full, not trade down and only clear 2.5M in salary.
He won't cost much more than a 2nd or 2 3rds to dump, since he's only got one year left and puts up decent enough numbers that the team acquiring him can easily 50% retain and flip him

LMAO, Kessel who is a much better player cost the Leafs a 1st to move and he had 1 year left at 6 Mil! How do you figure JVR would cost less?!

Kessel didn't cost the Leafs a 1st to move and his contract was 8 mil...

I am pretty sure Price's career is over. MTL would not trade Allen if that's the case. Unless they can sign a guy like Fleury

That's a fair point then. I think JVR's better than Marleau was though, and later picks from Philly are going to be worth more than they would've been for Toronto.
A Philly 2nd isn't far off of the value of a late 1st

Toronto's pick was a mid 1st, not a late 1st as they were put out of the playoffs in the 1st round. Also since Philly has no seconds until 2024 and dumping JVR costs more than 3rd it will either be a lottery protected 1st or a top prospect.

At the time of the trade though the Leafs pick would have been expected to be a late 1st.
Agree to disagree on that cost, but we'll see.
