Scheif trade

Created by: YourWinnipegJets
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2022
Published: May 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This trade allows for the defense pairs to be:

Morrisey-Carlo
Samberg-Pionk
Dillon- Heinola

I would prefer is Schmidt and Stanley were traded
Trades
WPG
  1. Carlo, Brandon
  2. Haula, Erik
  3. Lysell, Fabian
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
I see this trade as two parts:
1) Scheif for Carlo, Haula and Lysell
2) Demelo for a second round pick
BOS
  1. DeMelo, Dylan
  2. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
I think this is around fair value for Scheifele, as even though he is a liability defensively he has proven to be one of the most elite forwards in terms of scoring as he has consistently gone on a point per game pace for the past 6 seasons. Last season was considered one of his worst seasons ever and he still put up the points. With Bergeron uncertainty I definitely think the Bruins could use an upgrade down the middle. The Jets package for Scheifele should be a player or two that helps the team win now and then a young player that can come in a couple years down the road and be really effective for the team ( compare to Eichel deal with Peyton Karen’s although Krebs is already an Nhl player as opposed to Lysell. All these mock trades for Scheif are completely undervaluing him, despite him being a #1 centre. If u want to get a good player ur going to have to give up a lot that’s just the reality. Demelo can replace Carlos position on RHD and Scheif is a big upgrade on Haula.

There's no need for Winnipeg to add DeMelo if that is all that is coming back.

Yes there is. Jets need to free up a D spot anyways and Boston needs a Carlo replacement. Even in this scenario it’s likely jets trade Schmidt anyways.

Just can’t see the bruins moving carlo for Scheifele. He doesn’t exactly fit the bruins system.

Take out Haula and DeMelo, bump the BOS 2nd to a 1st
Trade DeMelo separately to TOR for their ‘24 2nd
Haula can stay in BOS… we don’t need him.
Trade Heinola to NYR for Lundkvist
Schmidt to DET for a 3rd opens up a spot for Carlo, giving us a D of,
Morrissey - Carlo
Samberg - Pionk
Dillon - Lundkvist

Does this put the jets back into the playoffs in the central? I would question that, and start to lean more to a retool and a big need for a Center that can replace scheifele if dealt, jets are a bubble team without a laine replacement and scheifele still in the lineup. So what is the direction and goal needs to be assessed.

No, not at all. I just meant take out the 2nd and DeMelo. Lysell and Carlo are a good basis for a Scheifele deal and Haula doesn't add much value one way or the other. The Jets as you say, would be better off moving Schmidt over DeMelo in a separate deal.

That's fine and all, but there's no reason to give away players. Find a separate deal for Schmidt or DeMelo if need be and take out the 2nd.

Ah okay now I understand what you meant. Yeah I mean just remove the extra pieces and build around Carlo/lysell for Scheifele. But Boston might want DeMelo anyways as a Carlo replacement. So maybe he’s in play regardless.

Yeah, I always find people throw way too many pieces in these deals. Just keep them simple, so you don't cloud the values. How often are are 6 pieces moved in one deal? Not many.

Show me a trade in the last 20 years that was for a teams first, top prospect, and a 25 year old top four d man signed for 5 years at a good number.

So why is Scheifele going to get an unprecedented return? He’s a good player, but he’s not exactly elite.

His goal scoring is elite lol. Not many players put points up the way Scheif does

And not many players ignore defensive play the way Scheifele does. I’m talking about his game. Not just goal scoring. But while we’re on the topic….

In terms of how many players put up points the way he does, kind of a lot do. 49 to be exact, as he was 50th in scoring this season. 52nd in goal scoring. 104th in points per 60 (minimum 20 games).

He’s a good player for sure, but he’s not the kind of guy that’s going to get an unprecedented return like vader was suggesting. He’ll get a first, a solid prospect, and a kicker, just like everyone else of his ilk.

I’ll get the last laugh. He isn’t getting half of what most jets fans seem to expect.

I made a topic about this, explaining that from a rational point of view there actually are not that many team that would be intersted in getting Scheifele given 1) their needs 2) having a reasonable return for the Jets 3) reflecting their SC window with his 2 years of contract

Give me your ideas then, I'm more than open for a discussion. I'm certain, though, he isn't going to land you a player like Carlo, a 1st and a top prospect. He has 2 years of his contract, why are the Jets fans refusing to see it? tears of joy

Elliott Friedman: “The markets gonna be huge”

Huge is pretty subjective. This is like when habs fans see some reporter say, “there’s interest in petry,” and assume their getting a first rounder for him. Interest can mean interest at 50% retained, interest for another bad contract. Etc.

Huge can mean 4 teams bidding against each other. Huge could mean a first, a prospect, and an okay roster player (and spoiler, it does).

Huge doesn’t mean another teams young top four d man….because we’re allowed to use a little logic here.
