I'm not sure at this point, I think we'd have to give up a ton for that pick, but I think this trade makes sense for both sides.

Creative.. however I do think there are multiple holes.

-I really like the Marchment signing.
-Letang’s number is starting with an 8
-Malkin’s number is starting with a 6
-Kane will get more to stay in Edmonton. He’d be stupid to leave Edmonton, Let alone Canada with all of his charges in the states.
-I believe the 23 1st as well is a bit excessive for the devils first. Everything else should be enough, maybe add a later round pick to sweeten the deals
-we didn’t re-sign Rust to over a 5mill deal to be a 3rd line winger.
-too much money spent on the 4th line..

Again, creative

Malkin doesn’t sign that contract. I think it makes sense to draft slafkovsky as he seems NHL ready. So we could let Malkin (or someone else, and you could sign Malkin to a fair deal with some of the money from whoever we don’t sign) and have slafkovsky fill his spot so we could spend more money on D, get either Manson or zadorov instead of Cole

I think this is a fair analysis, definitely will be a few hits and misses with all of mine just cause I love getting creative and trying new stuff with all of this. Here's what I was thinking:

- Marchment is a great player and I think could be a steal, could go off on the Pens
- Letang I think could easily get 9 mil on the free agent market, I worry whether we could keep him. In order to sign him before he hits free agency I think we'd have to pay him 9 mil. Wouldn't be good for us getting into a bidding war for him
- Malkin will probably get over 6 or 7 on another team, but I'd be hesitant. I think him being a winger in a reduced role for 5-6 mil is better for next year. If we keep Malkin our centers next year are 38 36 and 35. I think if we keep Malkin at center gotta get rid of Carter
- Didn't know Kane's charges in the state are that bad that it would prevent him from playing here possibly. I agree though we'd have to overpay him to get him, if I were him I'd want to keep playing with McDavid
- Gotten mixed answers on what this trade would be. You think one 1st, Marino, Kapanen and maybe a 2nd get it done?
- This was more just to show depth of this lineup. I'd imagine rotating a lot of the guys and finding out what works. Rust can easily play on any line I think
- Definitely spent a lot on the 4th line, but I think this would be an extremely deep forward core

How does Slafkovsky compare to Cooley, not super familiar with him

He has been rising rapidly in draft rankings and reliable reports say that some teams have him above Wright. This is largely due to his outstanding performance at the world level for his native Slovakia. In the olympics he had 7 goals in 7 games, and he currently has 7 points in 6 games at the world championship.

I think the main draw for Pittsburgh is that he is a 6’4” winger, whereas Cooley is a 5’10” Center. The former clearly being a better fit for the current pens team.

The thing is Cooley is a Pittsburgh native and has played jr. Penguins. It would be a very proud moment for the franchise to select him. Centers are typically easier to build around too, if you were starting a team from scratch.

The argument could be made that Cooley would be a smarter decision in the long term as this team has no centre depth once Crosby and company retires, but I think it is safe to say that drafting Slafkovsky would make this team more likely to win right now which is more important

Detroit accepts, and if your not qualifying Nylander then we'll have him too.
