Thank you for not totally underrating Hamonic. I actually think that might be a bit too much for him but i think it's pretty close.

Adding two forwards to an already cluttered forward group is the only reason I think the Islanders pass. Value is there for sure but the Islanders would have to make several moves to fit Hyman and Soshnikov in.

True, but they could unload one of their other forwards out or make a package to move others around. It gives them more pieces and pulls away almost $9M of cap room off their books for next year.

I don't under estimate any d-man and I honestly think you will have to over pay, but the best way to mitigate that a little is by taking back a bad contract.

I'm a big fan of Dermott and his potential, he's our best Defensive prospect by quite a bit and I would be really against trading him.

TOR won't give a third to Vegas for taking Fehr, we only got a 4th for taking him on. I'm not against keeping Fehr as a 13th forward since he can play center if need be.

I'd use kids over Fehr. I want Dermott but you have to give something to get something and if you think that a top 4 of Reilly, Hamonic, Gardiner, and Zaitsev can get you to a cup in 2 years, then you don't need Dermott. As well Dermott is a guy like Reilly, small and fast, you can't have your entire defense like that.

Not if Hamonic plays the way he did this season. Him and Leddy were by far the worst top pairing in the league this year, Leddy played way better away from Hamoinc with Boychuk and even Pelech.

If Hamonic plays as poorly and Dermott continues his path to being a solid Top 4, then this trade looks awful.

Also Hamonic has had several injuries now, and plays a rugged style, how durable is he going to be?

I agree, there is risk. Dermott only fits in with the team if you move on from Gardiner. Otherwise you would stunt his growth on the bottom pair.

But that doesn't have to play out this second. I'd love to see Dermott make the team this upcoming season, but another year in the AHL certainly would not hurt him. So technically we could be looking at bottom pairing duties for him starting in 18/19, and if he's ready to move into the Top 4 at that point then Gardiner can be moved.

Lots of things can change before Dermott claims a spot in the Top 4.

Majority of 21 year old Dmen start on the bottom pairing, does not mean he's destined to play his entire career there.

I think he will need another year in the AHL before he even breaks into the lineup. You need guys now, not later. It is how the team is going, but at the same time they won't fully rob themselves.

You still have Neilson and many other guys in the system. If not Dermott you can try to find a forward to replace him with.

If we're moving Dermott I'd rather not trade him for a defenseman that had one of the worst Corsi's in the league, seriously look it up, 4th worst Corsi
GA/60 was 5th worst

I don't know about you but I would prefer our defenseman reduce the amount of goals against

Islanders were a total tire fire this year, as well you look at things, but you don't look beyond the numbers. His Corsi went down because he went from having 50% of his starts in the D-zone to 56%. His Corsi has been close to 50% his entire career. But on the islanders I wouldn't want to give that much as a negative to the player more to the team being the team stinks.

Other thing you need to look at is that you won't get Fowler or Trouba and he is probably one of the few other options available to be traded for. Alzer will cost you too much in free agency $$ wise.

Dermott is the only D in the system that is pretty well a sure thing. There are several other prospects, but all of them have issues, and none are sure things.

I'd rather go after a Pens dman like Cole or Dumoulin. Pay half the price, and either of them would fit just as well as Hamonic.

No way they give up a third to lose Fehr, they only received a 4th to take him. He can be a fourth liner next year. You have overrated Hamonic considering his play last season, and he is a RHD, not a LHD. The leafs already bought out Grabovski once, no way they take that contract on, thats just crazy talk. You also have to account cap space for rookie bonuses which carry over. You go around on other leaf posts saying other peoples ideas are wrong or insane, this is near the worst post I have seen regarding the leafs yet. Go back and get some more info from your inside agents I guess...
