no -- NSH doesn't need/want a $4m+ 3rd pairing defenseman for the essentially untouchable Jeannot

Two players NSH doesn't want, for a player they have no interest in losing? Easy pass.

You could pay San Jose to take dumoulin maybe. Probably not though with his cap hit and the sharks lack of cap space. Dumoulin for Labanc maybe

What would it take for Jeannot? He certainly isn’t untouchable

Jeannot -- leading rookie goal scorer, league leader in fights, second in hits, $800k contract for next season

why would Poile trade this player?

I'm from Saskatchewan as well, so this was a pipe dream type of trade. A Sask boy to my favorite team. Nash needs help on the back end, plus get Kappy going, was worth a shot. Do you think they fit Forsberg in, sure be nice if hey stayed there.

why would Poile trade this player?

Because there are probably over 100 players better than him in the nhl?

Of course that contract is a steal but he only has 1 year left, not like he is signed for 8 years that aav

Let’s not get carried away by the storyline and forget this guy only has 41 points in 81 games. I don’t care how many this he had, a forward with 41 points is in no shape or form untouchable

I said he was essentially untouchable-- meaning it would have to be a significant overpay for any team to acquire him. Obviously any player can be made available for the right price, but your acting like no team wants to keep their players. NSH has no reason to trade him this summer. Maybe they consider it when his contract is up, but there is no reason to trade him right now-- he's on a ridiculously cheap deal and is a perfect match for Hynes' system (though I don't particularly like Hynes' system).

And yeah, he put up 24 goals and 41 points in 81 games with almost no PP time, lots of PK time, 70% defensive zone starts, and playing mainly with Sissons and Trenin. You don't think he could put up better numbers if he were playing with more offensive players and given more opportunities on the PP? And you say there are loads of players better than him, but how many in the NHL play his style? Very, very few.

Poile protected a relative unknown in the expansion draft, and look at how that turned out-- why would he move him now? There is nothing on PIT that NSH would have interest in other than Guentzel, and he's not going anywhere.

Lmao “nothing other than guentzel” keep dreaming

I know he isn’t going anywhere, but the original question is what would it take to get him. Never said he wasn’t good, but if you think the pens couldn’t put together a package without guentzel (and Crosby) to get him you are silly

I honestly don't see anything on the PIT roster that NSH would be interested in, out of their available players. NSH doesn't need top 4 D or bottom 6 forwards -- they could use some prospects or a top 6 winger. PIT doesn't really have any interesting forward prospects right now though. And they're not getting Rust after that extension, and if they want Rakell they could sign him in FA. So the only player that fits would be Guentzel. But do I think Guentzel will be traded? No. Do I think Jeannot would be traded? No. Do I think it's a 1-for-1? No. At the end of the day, NSH and PIT just aren't good trading partners.

If Guentzel was on the table, NSH would have to consider a reasonable package for him, even if that meant Jeannot was a part of the trade. Obviously, PIT isn't trading him. Or Crosby, or Rust - if NSH had interest in Rust, but I'm not 100% they would if it meant losing Jeannot. So what else would the Pens have to offer? They don't have any defensemen that would slot in above NSH's top four. The rest of their forwards wouldn't be of interest, in a Jeannot trade. NSH doesn't need goaltending, and again the Pens don't have enough to offer there anyway. PIT doesn't have any worthwhile prospects right now either. If they wanted to throw so many draft picks at NSH the Preds would have to accept, sure but I don't see that happening. Even if the offer was two 1sts, I wouldn't imagine Poile pulls the trigger. Jeannot has been the catalyst of NSH's new identity. He's not going to come cheap enough that any team would reasonably consider moving what it would take.

Dumo for Labanc might be a solid idea for the sharks, but I think Pit is more looking for cap space than a reclamation project. however if that deal happened i would be happy.
