Timo isn't for sale. But if we're moving Timo it means we are going to rebuild aka not acquire Nylander. So the package would need to be picks and prospects and it would start with Niemela AND Robertson with a 2023 1st. Frankly Timo is better than Nylander, he's more aggressive, strong, and he is a big game performer unlike Nylander.

Nylander was the best Leaf in the playoffs other than Matthews and has been a consistent playoff preformer so it is not really fair to say he is not a big game preformer. They both are pretty streaky but frankly I'd take Meier over Nylander for his outstanding offensive ability when he gets hot but both players can be pretty quite when not going well. Both are pretty bad defensivly but Meier is getting paid 10m next season so it really comes down to money.
It's actually probably closer then you think...

Timo's QO is 10mil. It's a QO not a guaranteed pay. If SJ offers 8 years at 8.5 mil and a 1 year 10 mil deal...He's going to take the term. Why do people think a QO is exactly what he's going to make...basic economics people.

If you go on to teams and go to Tot. Sal you will see that Meier's salary for next year is 10m which would while not stretch the budget of the Leafs would make it interesting for the trade.

i feel your right. both players have similar careers if you look at the numbers the only plus for sharks to swap Nylander for Meier is that we badly need a top 6 RHS. and yes Nylander is 1 mil more of a cap hit, but he is also signed for 2 more vs Meier 1. to me a 1 for 1 swap is pretty fair but does it really fix any problem on either team? and more likely it causes more issues that it solves because both players have good chemistry on their current team.

Nylander has okay chemistry on the Leafs but the big thing with Meier is he is also an RFA at the end of his contract so that allows a teams to at least control him for the same amount of time but I do agree. A trade involving both players wouldn't make sense.

As much as I'd love, love to see Nylander be a Shark, it wouldn't make sense for him to be in the return in a Timo trade. We'd be into full tank mode at that point, meaning all assets not named Eklund, Bordeleau, Kniazev, and our junior guys would be for sale and we'd be looking to get prospects, picks and cap dumps for the trouble. So it'd probably be involving Sandin, Robertson, and 1, perhaps 2, 1st round picks minimum if we traded out Timo.

I think Nylander would be perfect for the Sharks and I'd be open for alternate ideas to bring him on board. But like the others on this thread, I just don't think a swap tween him and Timo would make sense.
