Description
Credit to jacobla for coming up with this trade idea on the Sens side. I'm going to run with it on the B's side.

This trade opens up $3MM without having to give anything up to move Foligno. If DeBrusk's trade request holds, the best the Bruins could hope for in a trade is likely a first-round pick, and that's what Greig is. He immediately becomes the Bruins' best LW prospect by a mile. White has been underwhelming and injury-prone, but his best chance of turning things around could be back home in Boston. And if the B's see him as a bottom-six RW only, they can move Craig Smith (who I like for the record) for another decent pick and an additional $3.1MM in cap space, bringing the total resulting from this deal to over $6MM. That's more than enough to find a DeBrusk replacement in free agency. My top choice in the price range would be Rakell, who has former Ducks teammate and countryman Lindholm in Boston.

Smith is expendable with the White addition, but so is Lauko in part due to the Greig addition. Lauko falls behind Greig and Merkulov in the LW pipeline, with Olsen and Kuntar likely turning pro next year, and his waiver exemption ends in 2023-24. I'm not saying he's a throwaway prospect, but his opportunity will be better elsewhere. The Stars could lose Radulov, who gave them little this year anyway, Namestnikov, and Raffl, but replenish the wings with Smith and Lauko.

Reilly ends up somewhere for something like one or two picks in the 2nd-to-5th range, especially with a shallow LD UFA market. Isles seem to be the most frequently discussed destination.

Bergeron and Krejci come back on 35+ bonus-laden deals, there's enough cap space to round out the roster with an underrated utility forward in Sanford, and then you add some veterans to sneak down to Providence.

Debrusk isn't woth Greig, Greig is a Sens prospect to an absolute tee. (Already suspended for NHL debue) Some people said he was the best player in the WHL and he is a pretty good top six LW pairing with Stutzle.

If he does get moved it would be for a better player that would fit the Sens needs long term. Debrusk would be an okay top 6 forward but would probably be a middle six forward on a good team. Thus Ottawa is probably downgrading the future and the present.

Ottawa declines.

I'll post what i said in the OTT thread you got this trade idea from:

Player A: 215 points in 449 games or a career .47 ppg player, 53 point career high, 43 points this year in a comeback season, 29, 1.5 mil cap hit, played up and down the lineup including long stints on the top line, no trade request
Player B: 176 points in 321 games or a career .52 ppg player, 43 point career high, 42 points this year in a comeback season, 26, 4 mil cap hit, played up and down the lineup including long stints on the top line, trade request

A is Conor Sheary, B is DeBrusk. Obviously DeBrusk is a better player with more trade value, but not by that much. If you proposed trading Ridley Greig for Conor Sheary on this site you would be laughed off as the biggest caps homer in the history of hockey.

It also amazes me that even if Bergeron and Krejci took these insane sweetheart deals and with having Pastrnak on maybe the best value deal in the entire league, this is the best roster Boston can put out.

Debrusk is not close to being worth Greig imo, at least not to Ottawa. His game is so inconsistent, and I think Greig's upside is as good or better than DeBrusk
